Default Head swap help needed! 96GT to PI Head problem.

I got a 96 GT and im in process doin the PI intake swap...i bumped into a couple of problems..first off the pI gasket is not the same as the lower intake and there are little stubs on them that are supposed to go into the lower intake but they don't line up...wat do i do about that and the most important thing one of the coolant sensors taht goes on top of the thermostat housing , theres no spot for it on the new PI intake..what do i do about that??

and wat else will i bump into durin the swap??

Default PI Intake swap

Some reference material:
http://www.enthusedproductions.com/headswap/
http://www.bossracing.net/Tech%20Art...ap%20page1.htm

About the sensor hole: attached pic (also in my Gallery) shows PI manifold tapped for second sensor. I have also seen article where guy used pipe t-fittings to run both sensors out of the one hole in the original manifold. Believe the right side sensor hole (by thermostat opening) needs to be tapped 3/4 NPT but not 100% sure.

Would really like to hear your impressions on the cars' response and power when you get it all buttoned up.

Picture of t-fitting to adapt double sensors to PI manifold; wouldn't be my choice but you decide if right for you.

Parkway Performance can sell all the related parts if you already have manifold. http://www.parkwayperformance.com/Headswap.asp
check out the FAQ on the headswap - says that if you have the improved stock manifold on 96-98 (the one that already has the aluminum crossover at front) you can just swap the crossover for the one on the PI manifold, eliminating the need to tap the new crossover. Good tip.

The fellow Forum members can help you more quickly and clearly if you would list the existing mods to your car in your signature. Makes it easier to suggest things and solve problems if we know what's already been done to your ride.

Hi I am new here but also doing a swap next month I am wondering if I do the swap and put in a mild comp cam with under drive pullies do i need to get mt cr dyno tune or will it run good like that.

also since my 96gt will be a pi now .to buy a programmer or tunner do I buy it for a 99 and up or for a 96 gt since my computer will stay the same unless it needs to be done.

Everything You Wanted to Know About the PI 4.6L Headswap (well, almost) is the new link for the old EP hosted site that meatball posted.

The site has a parts list as well as common issues found when doing the swap.

As for the cams, I'd suggest tuning the car to get the most of out it. You don't have to tune it, but it will complete the package and you can't really say you did it right unless you've tuned it. I left a lot of power on the table with my headswap tune and I was using box stock parts.

I don't recommend using DIY tuners and things of that nature. I'd suggest taking it to a professional tuner with a dyno and wideband A/F monitoring capabilities. Without the dyno and the A/F ratios at hand, you're simply guessing.

Yes a tune will be a very wise idea if you're doing a cam swap also. Be sure you degree the cams properly so you don't have any issues with valves hitting pistons. There is a VERY narrow band of cam timing adjustment that can be used for cam installs. Typically they should be installed straight up and not advanced or retarded at all.
