I need to buy a new X pipe. Should I go with Bassani offroad $260, Basani w/cats &400, or UPR w/ cats $279. I live in the worst state for smog... What do you all think?
bassani with cats if you wanna be emissions legal, w/o cats then you wont be. Bassani is also better quality then upr and a better brand. You may want to consider magnaflow also, all stainless steel, fits and performs well and is a tad cheaper than bassani.
Happy w/fit, fnish, and performance of my stainless Magnaflow w/cats.

I live in the same shitty state as you. NO MATTER WHAT MID PIPE YOU GET, IT IS NOT SMOG LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA. Trust me. I have a BBK O/R X pipe with my stock midpipe in storage. Get whetever pipe you want, just make sure you hold onto the stock one.
Bassanai X w/ cats and SLP Loudmouth pipes are what you need.......I will get a sound stream in a few weeks............My car will be done Dec 30th......I hope.....

here's an idea ponygrl, this should get you through visual and smog test. buy whatever pipe you want and get 2 OE cats new. punch 2 cats on each side through to unclog them. replace the remaining cats with the ones you just bought. keep the original pipe in storage and voila, you'll pass all tests and still have the fun pipe to play with 364 days a year.

Honestly, that is a good idea Blue, but you will have to tune you car a bit if you go offroad because of back pressure issues, and then re tune with the stock pipes when put back on. So I have heard. It may seem like things "sound" ok after the install, but you will run into problems down the road. If this were as easy as it sounds we would all be doing it. Plus, it is a pain and you won't gain but more than 2-3 hp with an offroad. Why waste your time when you can do pulleys and get 15 hp there and a k&n filter charger. Yes this will require tuning too. Headers will get you more HP than a Off-road too.

I've never heard anything about retuning if you go from a catted to an uncatted pipe. I did this on my '03 GT and all I did was reset the computer once I was done. Everything ran just fine. Yes, a set of MIL eliminators will be needed when it has the offroad pipe on but those are about $50 a set.

The basani is on!!! It is so loud. i love it. I still need to buy a cat-back. I think Magnaflow is the way to go as far as that goes.
It's unfortunate that I can't seem to find another stang or camaro to race since I've put the exhuast on. My car has come alive!! It is a huge difference from stock exhuast to an x-pipe.
Thanks all for the great advice.

Ok, well you will only be able to pass visual inspection with a stock mid-pipe.
Obviously you dont know the RIGHT people, Mana!! I lived in Cali for 20+ years and had many modified cars...never had a problem hooking up someone to score a smog sticker from...unless things have changed in the past 2 years.

Actually I do know the "right people." But your average person doesn't. I have also lived in Cali for 20+ years.
