Going to trade in my 04 GT for..

A civic si. Loaded with green wheels and nos stickers.

Kidding.

Been looking at the 05+ GTs. (Cant afford a 5.0) the extra 30hp sounds nice and they are pretty affordable. Kinda bored of this car got it in March and it cost to much money to be fast. Newer ones have better suspension also right?

The S197's are nice, and yes, better suspension. Try for a premium with the brushed aluminum interior stuff, the base interior kinda sucks a little, it's all rubbery and cheap feeling. Also, go for 2006+ if you can, the '05's still had some bugs to be worked out.

The only downside to S197's is how much stuff for them costs. Axle back exhaust, which is a fancy term for mufflers, pretty much the same cost as a full catback for our cars. Cold air? Gonna have to buy a tuner to go with; it's like a $600 proposition. The list goes on and on.

And lastly, if this all works out and you get one, please do not be one of those toolbags that lists all of your 126 visual/exterior mods in your sig. That sh!t is lame, seriously. Go over to the S197 section of this or any Mustang forum to see what I mean. Complete toolbags.

Yeah definitely want premium. I want leather thats why. Yeah the tuner and intake is a rip off. So the no tune intakes aren't as good?

they gain you nothing, but a cai really only gains anything from the tune itself, and not that fact you have the cai in most cases

had i not gotten such a good deal from a forum member on here, i would not have got a cai for my car, but the roush axle back and airraid intake that he only used for a week before procharger, all for $450 shipped, which was $30 cheaper than just the roush mufflers i was going to buy that day lol.

OP, before you leave the 4.6 herd, have you considered a Termi? A nice, clean Termi will cost you about the same as a nice, clean S197. Just about everyone agrees that even with the modest factory tune, it was one of the fastest Mustangs ever built. Not to mention it's from that simpler time we all know where you could swap out an intake, mid-pipe, mufflers, and all that jazz without needing to retune the car unless you felt like it. Being 8-9 years old now, parts are also much cheaper and it technically qualifies as a collector's car. It's just something to consider

I think s197s don't sound nearly as good as most new edges\sn95s , major turn off for me.

Have you thought about getting a Pontiac GTO?

I agree, after owning an 04 mach, I would go back to a mach or terminator if I do it again. I own a 09 R/T challenger, Love it and its quick, but there is something about the 99-04 mustangs, even the 94-98's that I just like.

Lol ya the 99-04s are nice but just to slow for me. The 05+ one are getting cheap now so I rather mod that then mod my 2v.

well like all Mustang lines Ford improved them as they went, what I love about my 96 is the look is so unique, it screams "muscle car"...the 197s are too much like a luxury car, which is what it was derived from, so thus you have the two camps of the pre and post "retro" car

The nice thing about the S197's is all you really need to do is stick a nice blower and related shiz on, do a little suspension and you can call it done. No need for a built shortblock in order to get past 400rw, and the chassis and suspension starts out from a much better place than ours, so not as much to be done there.

Yes, the 94-04 GT's ARE slow as I found out today, but the machs and termi's are fast, and faster with minimal parts and good tuning.
