Default Double Clutching?

Is there such a thing as double clutching? I watched fast and furious, and hitting myself for watching such a stupid movie again i still couldnt get over the double clutching tip vin deisel gives paul walker. If anyone has any idea if this is real or not, please tell me.

they are speaking bull **** in the movie.. they are talking about pressing the clutch again while accelerating to get the engine to rev, the redumping to "go faster".. well it doesn't help

real double clutching, now there is an art. heres a simple summary:
while decellerating, take car out of gear to begin downshift,
remove foot from clutch while tranny is in neutral
rev engine to about where the engine will be after you downshift to gear.
press clutch
slide shifter into gear, release clutch. it should be done quite smoothly, and with practice, it can be done quickly..

oh thats it? hehe kinda funny because i had ben doing that because i cringed at the feeling of the car jerking. Thanks for the info. As for the movie, my favorite parts were when Johny Tran was talking about his nissan motors in his acuras, or when vin deisel talked about a ten second car, when the eclispe walker drove was a 14 second car (*cough* stock GT) maybe they shoulda spent less money on the paint and gotten a better car.

I push the clutch in while breaking and with my right foot I stradle both the throttle and the brake to down shift but I don't double clutch it. Sometimes I do it nice and smooth and other times I have to make sure no one is looking.

I remember my father telling me that double clutching was for the old manual trucks that didn't have syncros in the transmission. You would let the clutch out in neutral so that you could match the engine speed with the transmission so that you wouldn't grind the gears. I don't think it does much for today's cars.

Whn I uesed to drive a truck, double clutching is when you push the clutch when you leave a gear and the push it again when you shift into the next gear . The reason for this is to move the sincros and find the gear a little easier. Ever hear the expression "can't find em grind em", This kind of helps.

That's correct. Keep the 'double clutching' for big rigs & big movie stars. You want the car to move out in a hurry? There is NO sub for a good ol' powershift my friend. Once this art has been mastered you'll know why it's called a 'powershift.'

I'm sure your fimiliar with that. Just don't be playing with this double clutching stuff. You hang a gear and 'bang' there goes the tranny!

Good luck,
Cory

Double clutching is really not needed in cars equipped with synchros.

It is just not needed.
