Default Wheel Size Concern

I'm hoping some of you wheel experts can help me out:

I just had American Racing 505 wheels installed. They are 17x7 with 0 offset according to the wheel guy that I bought them from. I was able to use the stock tires, so I saved a few bucks.

Anyhow, I'm worried that he sold me a wheel that isn't correct for the car. They look awesome, but they extend about a quarter inch past the fender. Makes it look cool, but I'm worried about hitting the fender and about the change in wheel position.

Anybody have any thoughts? Thanks.

I will post some pics later.

It's impossible to have "0" offset expecially if they are sticking out an 1" out of the wheel well, I think the person that you talked to is a moron................ Read this site for more info on your wheel problem it might be able to help you.

Thanks, but on the American Racing website, they list some wheels as 0 offset:

I'd say they are not the correct wheels for the car and would be concerned; the junk kicked up by the tires will be tough on the paint. I'd call American Racing or the store mgr. immediately and find a solution.

Yes it is possible to have a 0 offset wheel. It means hub is centered in the rim. I am not a wheel expert, but the 17x8 with a 25mm offset would have been a better fit because they would have extended out a 1/2 inch less than the 17x7 with a 0 offset. I used this offset calculator to come up with this. http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html
I would see if they will exhange them for the 17x8s.

By the way they look great on the car!!

That's what I was worried about but even the stock wheels potentially shoot stuff up at the body because it curves under so much. The wheels look great and as I was giving the GT it's first bath today, I was finding all kinds of mystery gunk under the body on the paint.

Besides, aren't all the people that are going with the 17x8 or 9s dealing with the same problem with the wheels/tires extending past the fenders?

Just trying to find some justification for the wheels as they look so nice.

By the way, I'll give a great deal to anyone that is looking for the upgraded Ford wheels that came with my car.

Man...I feel your pain in waiting for your GT. I fell in love with the car and started calling dealers via www.forddirect.com until I found a dealer that would sell me a GT at MSRP. I snapped it up and have no regrets. I'll probably have to bring it in for the known problems...clunking at low speed maneuvres...shaker skipping...etc, but...the car kicks like a mule and I'm having a blast driving it.

The stock wheels are 17x8. A 10 inch wide wheel will fit inside the fenders on the rear of the car as long as it has the proper offset, same goes with a 9 inch wheel in the front.

bring those wheels back asap. 1. they are the WRONG offset. and 2. they are too narrow. you want atleast an 8" wide wheel, if not a 9". trust me, you'll regret it later. those tires that are on the back look way too narrow on your car. you want at least a 265 in the back. you definitely can't fit that safely on a 7" wheel. besides with the wheels sticking out like that it doesn't look right, it looks like they just threw any wheels on the car that might look good. usually trucks have the wheels stick out, not stangs. unless they be pimped out ridin' on gold Dayton's like a lowrider, dog. just my opinion. but definitely bring those wheels back and at least get the correct offset.
