What up mustang people? I'm new but I just realized why people like me and yourselfs like mustands, they're just very and I mean very good cars. I just bought a 2001 Mustang GT and plan on doin all the upgrades and modifications very soon. But I literally don't have an idea where to start sad to say I'm a car type of guy when it comes to hobbies but just don't know where to start. I was a Honda guy before I bought the Gt but it was just a daily drive type of car not a project car like my Gt. It seemed more than obvious to me that if upgrades are gonna take place they need to start internally. (Internals). I'm not gonna buy a new engine, why when there's already one in there. So I'd appreciate if some of you guy's would lay out some recommendations on what parts will I need to purchase to upgrade the engine safely. Cause starting with cams superchargers and nos isn't gonna help It's just gonna mess up the engine itself. Please and thanks.
2. Suspension... springs, shocks, sub frame connectors.
3. Exhaust
4. Cold air intake.
5. Then nos or forced induction. Most say supercharger but I am more of a turbo man.
Also it important to know your budget so we can suggest accordingly!

Thanks for your help and suggestions. Do these goodies listed above include pistons bolt on's and such?
These are simple bolt-on parts that can improve horse power and the tuner will make a noticeable change. The CAI helps with the Plenum Throttle body combo to deliver more cool air to the engine and the tuner "tunes it in" so that you make the most of the add ons. You are talking about internal engine components....then a lot more money is involved. not only parts but also the labor for someone to install. stick with the list for now untill you decide what route you want to go. regardless....the list above is a must.

i stopped parts at 1200 because you are going to want those gears....and someone is going to have to put those in. that is where labor will start coming into play.

I'm not insulting but seems to me no one here knows what internal upgrades are. Not one person here has mentioned rods, pistons, valves or anything internal. Cause honestly the intake, exhaust and the other visible goodies can wait. Gears are all I've heard that's close to internal. I was just in another forum and had better answers there. But respectfully I appreciate your suggestions. Labor is not a problem in my garage
you said 2k....you are looking to rebuild that engine. you are going to be hard pressed to have someone bore it out and replace pistons and internals for that much. we say bolt-ons first because you are going to want to get those anyway and they are a lot cheaper to "start"
"But I literally don't have an idea where to start sad to say I'm a car type of guy when it comes to hobbies but just don't know where to start."
this is why you are getting the answers you are. we are trying to give you a start. when you start talking about rods and pistons you start talking about someone taking your motor out of your car breaking it down and it cost cash.

Typically no one worries about internals unless you're looking for serious power. The block can handle roughly 400rwh and 8-10 psi of forced induction is safe without internal upgrading. The rods are the weaklings in these motors. Most don't care to upgrade the insides unless they have huge plans that involve lots of time and money. Gears by far will give you the best feeling and vigor right short of forced induction. We don't have many looking to change the insides compared to just working with the stock block and beefing it up. You can make it plenty fast without the need for forged internals but it boils down to what you want and your goals.
Congrats on the car and welcome to the forum.

I respect you and your suggestions but I asked what internal upgrades regardless of my cash budget cause that's where id like to start off at. N like I said I was a Honda guy, before I fell in love with mustangs. I didn't upgrade it or put a dime in that car cause there's no point in upgrading a 4 banger. But my point is I knew a couple of things about Honda but not about a v8. Now the things you've mentioned and listed have been taken note of which I will indeed get and purchase in the future. But I know one thing and its before modding the car its more than common sense to start internally to prevent engine damage. It's my project car so it'll sit in my garage for a roughly 30 days till I show boat the car. Labor is not a problem.
