Question Match headlight housing with body color

Greetings,

My wife and I are looking into purchasing a new Mustang GT at the end of the summer and I was wondering if it is possible to repaint the headlight housing the color of the body to better emulate the early 60’s Mustang look?

I’ve tried taking a closer look how the headlight assembly is put together but I don’t see how I would go about it. Can I remove the clear lense covering or is it glued together to the housing?

Thanks! :thumbsup

First off, good luck finding a GT during the summer months. As for the headlight cover, search these forums for cover or headlights. I remember someone told how to take them off.

The clear cover over the lens is glued on you can baked it in the oven for abour 5 mins and it should loosen the glue so you can pry it apart. and then have the inside painted. The head light comes apart into 3 pieces the clear lens, the louvered housing, and the headlight and back assembly...

Yes, I'm finding that out. I'm hoping by the end of the summer I might have better luck.

That's cool, are the dealers marking up ordered GTs as well? Is there any option changes for 06's?

Thanks for the info, with my luck I would end up ruining the headlight assembly.

Maybe by the time I'm ready to purchase a GT, some company will offer these already painted to body color. Hint Hint.

Yes, that's what I told my wife; if we get a black Mustang then I won't be tempted to ruin a perfectly good pair of headlights by trying to take them appart and painting them the color of the body.

She likes the retro blue, so I'm pretty much stuck getting the color she likes so that I can get a GT and not a base one.

I had a GT ordered since January, the dealer said he did not have enough allocations for me to get an 05, so he put me at the top of the line for an 06, so far two colors have been eliminated and two colors added, also 18" wheels are now an option.

If I were you I would find a dealer who has alot of allocations. I ordered a GT 4/26 and my dealer says the car is built and is due in next week. Even if they said you are top of the list, you still might be waiting a bit.
