Default What do you think about body kits?

Hey, I am currently saving up for 99-04 4.6l and i was looking at body kits for them. I was just wondering how do you guys feel about body kits such as the Stalker, Stalker 2, and Demon? Thanks

I like the Cervini Stalker ram air hood, front bumper and fogs. The quality of the Cervini parts is higher than the numerous Stalker imitations, and I looked at the Demon kit - the workmanship on the parts was simply inferior.

The major aftermarket makers (Rausch, Saleen, Steeda) and Cervini seem to make the best hoods and bumpers.

Whatever you do, avoid fiberglass bumpers - they WILL break!

Going the body kit route requires significant addit. expenditures to make them look right on top of the kits themselves and the required install/painting. There's getting the right wheels/tires & springs/shocks to complete the proper 'look', etc. 3Black is correct about quality; think urethane not fiberglass. Remember the money you spend on this takes away money that can be spent on performance-oriented items like brake upgrades and horsepower. Your call - there's certainly some sweet body parts out there.

They pulled maintenance on the forums last night (shut the whole thing down for about 8-10 hours). I've noticed quicker response from the site today - but yes, your gallery (and a few others I just checked) are indeed gone away. I keep meaning to get more and better shots of my own car now that its finally repaired, but I guess I'm lucky this once. Looks like they might have thrown the baby out with the bath water.

Hope you have backups for all the photos...

You should plan on painting the parts before installing them. I don't believe Cervini offers painting services. If you don't paint cars, a body shop will do the work for you. Budget at least $1000 to paint and install a body kit (first rate shops will charge twice that, or more). Getting paint that matches your factory finish and parts that fit like they were made for your car takes time, expertise, and the proper tools.

You may want to rethink getting a 302, the latest mod motors are makin more power than the 302's ever did. Don't mistake what I'm saying. The 302 is an awesome motor, but the potential in the mod motors is just as good, and you won't have to go buy an entire engine.

I personaly dislike body kits.I purchased a Mustang because
I like and enjoy the body style the way it sit stock. The down
fall to all body kits is that they all add some kind of weight to
the car.The only style body kit I ever somewhat liked was the
body kit from www.cervinis.com

I agree with you that the add-on kits that attach to or cover the existing bodywork are just dead weight. I also agree with your opinion of the Cervini kit, since I have several of their components on my car .

But if you're careful you can build a car with parts that are lighter than the oe components. The new carbon fiber parts, particularly those that just replace the stock hood, trunk lid, bumper covers, side trim, etc, can eliminate over 100#. The hood alone saves a lot.

I helped a friend with his install (he liked the carbon fiber look - I'm not so sure about the look). His reason for picking the parts was to save weight, so he weighed all the parts. We shaved over 118# off the weight of the car, and that included the fact that he wimped out and added a heavy Saleen wing instead of leaving the trunk lid clean, which was my suggestion. The bumper covers were fiberglass, and a good bit lighter than the urethan oe parts - again, he ignored my advice about the fragility of the 'glass. They looked good (cobra r style) once painted, but woe be unto him if he even taps a parking berm.

The final look was ok, but would have worked better for a black stang (his was mineral gray). He had all the parts painted except for the hood, which he left "natural" carbon fiber.

It strikes me that the idea of changing a pretty car should be undertaken with some trepidation. I originally bought my car wrecked, with the idea to make it a custom design (I also saved a ton of money, but that just gave me the freedom to indulge in the body parts and paints). I absolutely respect those who keep their rides clean and original.

i think a body kits for a mustang should be the firberglass hood and the bumber i have an 87 wit the cobra r with the svo hood scoop and i love it but it is fiberglass and you have to be very gentle with it but with the bumber ill go with the stalker that is a reall good lookin bumber but the only thing about it is that is cost like 500 bucks!! so if you have that kind of money to play around with then do it but that money could be goin towards your engine so thats somthin to think about.

I have to admit, some of the body kits out there dooo look good. I doubt I'd ever buy anything radical for mine though. The only things I am considering are to get the older style Cobra R hodd ('95 I believe...?) and to fill in the "MUSTANG" and the exhaust cut-outs on the rear bumper.

The reason I am goin with the 302 crate engine is that its stock with 350 hp. Also, I have heard the 5.0's are easier and cheaper to mod than 4.6's is this true?

Yes the 5.0's are somewhat easier to work on and they are
cheaper to work on.On the 4.6's some parts are harder to
get to making it harder to work on.Also modding the 4.6's
is always going to cost most.Inturn the 4.6L's resale value
is more than the 5.0L's.

Get one of those crate motors with the GT40 heads. Mmmmm... I know Year One has them cause I went back in their warehouse and saw about 5 of them sitting there waiting to be bought.
