Default ford racing headers

my local shop has some on the shelf and says there the best. should i get them. they are 409 stainless, shorty headers. are aluminum or long tube any bettter. how much hp and tq should i expect to gain from these.

they also got the flowmaster kit on the shelf also. has anyone got the flowmaster kit, got any pics/sound clips, heard anything about it.

thanks

I am thinking about the Ford Racing shorties myself coupled to a Bassani X-pipe. Let me know if you add them how you like them. Honestly, as posted before, OEM's are doing exhaust very well now especially on performance vehicles. You must consider the fact that if you go with Long Tubes you will need either O2 sensor extensions or just "trick them" or turn them off for emission code issues. You will get most HP gains from LT headers at the cost of O2 bung games. The shorties will be more user freindly IF you plan to keep all emmisions in tact and stock. LT headers also displace your stock cat locations meaning new downstream cat locations are required or go all off road and don't worry about it.

All said, you can expect about 15-20 RWHP gains from headers and X-pipe combos based on my research. If somebody has better dyno results let me know. Not too bad of gains really but, the engine will need to be jacked up for the headers to install. Also be sure to get the ceramic coating for minimal heat source from headers.

The JBL shortie headers are an alternative to Ford.

Good luck.

my ford racing headers (for a 5.0) are top quality!!! they are about the only ones who true up the flange after its welded to make sure it seals...thay are great!!! now as with any header it might be a good idea to get stage 8 bolts or some other kind of locking bolt so they dont come loose and fall out.

I had a set and ended up selling them due to the fact another member on another forum did a before and after dyno and only got 3hp!..i never ended up installing mine at all and I will also say the quality on the headers was NOT very good at all IMO..The welds were shoddy, and the ports were not all lined up properly and welds were bad there too.Fit was pretty good though from what I heard from the other member
