Ok, after several conversations and a sit-down "design" sesion with a guy who does graphics on cars and vans I was suppose to have my stripes installed today. 3 hours after I drop the car off at his shop he calls to tell me that he is having serious trouble getting the 3M vinyl to conform to the hood and front bumper and that basically he can't do it! I was soooooooo pissed!
I've been looking forward to getting those stripes on the car and now this! I'm not asking for anything special... just the "stripe 3" design on the stipe painter website. I then ask him that if I were to buy one of the precut stipe kits, like from Bob White, would that make it any easier... He said that he didn't think so, that he would have the same problem. Well it really sounds like the guy either doesn't know what he is doing or doesn't want to do the job.
So, now I'm either looking at doing it myself with one of the kits, or finding another place that will do it. Anyone know of place that CAN install Vinyl stripes in the Seattle area? Seems like this shouldn't be that hard of a job. I've seen others post on here with those stripes... Any help would be great!
I called over 20 graphic shops to get my Mustang striped. All but one said he could do the stripes from bumper to bumper. The dealer recommended shops will only do the hood, top, rear deck lid & spoiler. My graphics guy told me that the '05 Mustang is one of the hardest cars he has striped, due to the multitude of curves on the car, the stripes all want to lay in towards each other instead of going on perfectly straight. This was his story.
If I want the bumpers done, I will have to take it to the only guy in town that said he would do it. I was going to do that untill he was a little rude to me on the phone, so for now, I like what I got.
Good luck, I would ask your dealer for a recommendation.
Painted bumper to bumper stripes should only run around $800.
Mine are vinyl and i had them put on by a local sign shop. I don't like the bob's decals because they're too skinny. Here are some pics of mine: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/1379830

$800???? I'm not sure where you got that cost from, but there isn't a shop this side of the Mississippi that would do it for that, or at least one that I've found.

I payed $900 for mine. He wet sanded the stripe areas, prepped for paint, painted the stripes, and then re-cleared each entire panel which was painted. You can't feel any transition from factory color to stripe. It was a small, independent body guy that specializes in custom work. The big guys wouldn't touch it. Collision work only from them.

Yeah the shop you talked to is yanking your chain. If you are going with the two racing stripes. then it can be done. However, if you get the big fat middle stripe, it is more unlikely that it will work with vinyl due to the pointy bumper.

I was orginally going to go with 2 stripes. Installer said no problem. A day later I changed my mind to a big single down the middle. The installer said, "Let me show you something" He rolled out the big stripe down the middle. He then want on to show me how the vinyl wanted to go every which way and did not want to lay flat! He then smiled and said "what the heck... I'm up for a challenge" Took him all day to do the stripe down the middle with surrounding pinstripe, trunk panel and door accents... Cost was $500 but it came out great and i'm very happy with the outcome!!

05SilverBullitt, your stripes look awesome. The best after market I have seen. I'd do mione tomorrow if I could get that look. I have a new Alloy color (dark grey) and I want subtle difference. Again, your's is very, very cool!

so about 4 months ago i striped my 99 gt with 10 in vinyls and it is a B***H!! but it can be done! if you look at the hood of the 99 it is way harder than the s197s it should not be hard to do. whoever told you it was to hard is an idiot ha. basically what you need to do is get a set of vinyls yourself (The Shopping Cart : BaltimoreStreetMods, 3M Automotive Graphics) they come with instructions and its really not all that hard to do. but you do need a heat gun or a hair dryer it will come in handy on the curves over the vehicle. all you have to do is measure out the middle of the car with blue painters tape then line the stripes up against the edge of the tape and work it down with the heat gun and the soapy water solution. be sure to always leave an extra inch or so at the edges of the hood and rear deck lid so that you can fold it under for extra strength and a cleaner look. trust me though if i can do this myself with no vinyl experience you can too. it is a lot of work though. and quite time consuming. it took me about 8 hours to do the hood roof and trunk. i still need to do the bumpers but it got to dark and then i got lazy. im going to do them this coming spring. private message me if there is anything i can do to help. dont let some idiot bring you down man stripe i yourself you will feel 100% more awesome after
