Default 2005 Windshield meets Rock

hello...maybe someone knows

my windshield was hit by a rock. it did not put a crack in the glass, i took it to SafeLite and they said they couldn't fix it cause it was a surface dent. this is on my side (drivers side) in my line of sight, to a point where it is distracting. i was wondering if someone knows how much it would be to replace the windshield? while it's distracting it's disheartening that it's on my 2 month old 2005 mustang :-( i see places that can replace it, my question is about the mustang logo on the inside of the window. is that just something they add in after the glass is put on or what? i'm in Philadelphia Area, so if anyone knows anyone around that would be good. i'll try and post a picture, i have one but i'm not on my home pc.

Doesn't that suck!? But it WILL happen if the stang is your daily driver! It happened to me a few weeks ago, rock chip driving down the highway, close to my line of vision... The repair shop was able to fill it, but there's still a visible little crack mark there. Mine's not worth replacing the windshield, but if I get another ding, I'll see if the shop can try to "refill" the residual little crack from the first ding as well.

Cheers

I caught a rock on the interstate the day after getting it back with the new stripes. The crack began immediately, thus not "repairable". The best quotes I received were $265 for replacement with new glass and $445 for "original quality" glass. What that means is it will cost $180 more for the running pony. I will be going the $265 route and add a strip of tint across the windshield when windows get tinted with the $180 I save on the replacement. Strip would cover up the pony anyway.

If you have comprehensive on your car insurance, that would take care of it other than any deductable.

Glass coverage is like $25.00 a year on my policy (for three cars) and it goes for any problem including sandblasting over time. Check with your insurance company. there shouls not be any deductible from an act of God. Had a windshield replaced two months ago, had glass coverage and it paid the whole nut. :thumbsup :thumbsup

LOL.. I feel your pain. The last three brand-spankin'-new cars I've bought managed to obtain windshield chips within THREE FREAKIN' days of delivery. My 05 Mustang received its "christening" on the way home from the dealer! It's a tiny, almost unnoticable chip on the top-passenger side, but it's a chip nonetheless.

The fact is, if you drive it the car AT ALL, it will eventually end up with some kind of chip/ding/etc. Almost all of it can be fixed, so don't worry about it. The sooner you resign yourself to the car no-longer being perfect, the easier it will be to cope with your loss. (Notice how serious I am about this... I'm trying to teach myself at the same time).

As far as the insurance goes, as PCFRISCH says, if you have comprehensive coverage on your auto policy, it will *most likely* cover the windshield replacement, as OEM.
However, in some states, your insurance may be allowed to require you to cover the deductible (if you have one). In other states (such as Rhode Island) there won't be a deductable, but it will be written up as a claim and will result in an increase in the comprehensive portion of your auto insurance premium over the next 3 to 6 years (not good). While still in other states (Massachusetts for example), there is NO deductible nor will it affect your insurance rate.

If I were you, I'd check with your insurer, then make a decision.

That chip will likely ruin your wiper blade on its first swipe. And if you opt for after-market glass you'll just regret it for a long time. Fix it the way it came.
I carry $0 deductible just for thes things. The insurance person will probably ask where the "rock" came from (kicked up by another car, or off a dump truck?) This is important in that it can be argued (my agent explained this to me) if the rock "came" from the pavement you hit it, which equals collision coverage. If it fell off of a truck, and did not bounce, and it hit your glass directly, this equals comprehensive coverage. Big difference! Comprehensive claims cannot affect your rates.
I assume the rock fell off of some big dump truck and hit you right away, no bounces. And the license plate on the stupid truck was covered in grime, and he got off the freeway before you had a chance to flag him down.
Good luck
And by the way, I got my first chip last Friday. Tiny, low on passenger side. I'll wait for Mr Big.

Here in "dump loads of rock on the road for a dusting of snow" Mass. You get rocked so often it's like mosquito bites. Now the sweepers are out and move the rocks from the side of the road back out to the middle. J-a$$es. My insurance covers the glass w/ the plan I've got.

Got my first peck a week after getting mine. Had it repaired for $25.00 to keep it from spreading. It's almost in the center of the windshield, so it doesn't bother me that much. I drove my Ford Ranger for 2 years everyday with not ONE rock peck though

Same thing happen to my windshield. I bought my windshield from my Ford dealer, an exact replacement. I wound up with two hundred dollars in the new windshield. Good luck on yours.

Default Know how you feel...

Took my 6 week old Mustang on the highway last week and received a small ding in the windshield, a small chip on the front, and a ding in the clear headlight cover. My car is no longer perfect but I'll get used to it over time.

My damage was the result of a gravel truck. I saw it well in advance, slowed down, and moved a couple of lanes over to no avail. I heard my car getting pelted and was pissed. The back of the truck had the following painted on it in big black letters "Not responsible for road hazards" Well, I guess that makes it OK to beat up my brand new car. I felt like flagging the guy down, holding up a sign that says "not responsible for kicking your ass if you damage my car" and laying into the guy...

The truck may not be responsible for road hazard, but gravel falling out of the truck isn't a road hazard. It is a unsecure load and the driver is liable for any damage caused by hauling an unsecure load.

hmm...did your insurance cover any of it? because being that it's in my direct line of sight it should be? i know i have comprehensive on my plan. the only thing i am not sure of is if they will cover most if not some of the cost. i'm certain that it just came off the road, there were no trucks in front of me. it was a big "what the heck was that" and then saw the aftermath. if it was smaller and somewhere other than in my sight and somewhere that is going to tear the crap out of my blades, it wouldn't be so bad, but driving it now is a constant reminder that it's not perfect anymore. the best part of it was that i shouldn't have been on that part of the road, i just missed my exit and had to goto the next one. <img>

i too drove my blue escort for 2.5 years and a sable for about 3 years, never hit by a rock, drove them every day too.

Total bill was $512.00 which I paid. State Farm cut me a check for 312.00.
Only one question from State farm was date it happened.
Have a good one..
