Default 2001 Mustang V6 to V8 Engine Swap Help

Ive had my 2001 v6 for a while now and im either going to do an engine swap or save up to buy a new GT. Im actually leaning towards the engine swap so i can personalize it to my specs. Ive been lookin mostly at 351's and 302's but the 302's ive been comin across seem to fit in my budget a little better. Basically im looking for something that can be driven daily and be reliable but it has to have some serious performance too. If i were to drop a 5.0L in place of my 3.8 what would i have to upgrade/change (suspension, tires, trans, etc) and what would be the estimated cost of it all?

this is the 302 ive been considering:

You don't have a green crotch-rocket by any chance do you?

Btw, just a guess here, but I think that will end up costing you alot. The '01 chassis, drivetrain, suspension, wheels, brakes, etc, I don't think any of that would eb able to handle the HP a 302 would bring ya. You might bebetter of saving for a GT, or getting a used one and workig from there.

The V6 suspension is strong enough for a V8....it'll hold a blown 330hp V6 so it's good enough for a V8. Might want a 8.8 GT rear, but thats cheap. a 4.6 would be a much easier swap

Of you really want power from a V6...let these guys build it:

Super Six Motorsports

Though you WILL spend the same on a V6 that you will on a V8 because the T5 manual will be completely rebuilt, drive shaft strengthend, and by the time you're done it will still sound like a V6...though no one will be laughing at you...you'll still sound like a V6...if you don't care about sound you can pull 12's IF you really want to build a full on Drag 6er...but be warned....its not cheap...I'm thinking of doing this BUT I like V8's and sure as hell going to be more relyable...so I might just go v8 in the end...and get the GT.

depending on what state you're in you cant legally put a 302 in it. most state require that the engine you are swapping in is from a vehicle of the same yr or newer..... people will tell you how you swap out brakes, suspension, etc.. its simply not true. you will need the 8.8 rear end because the 7.5 is just to weak, k member, wireing harness and gagues if you're fair good mechanically its not a hard swap

Putting in a 302, or any sbf for that matter, in place of a modular is very involved and will require a lot of parts and tools, a lot more than just the engine. Different k member, trans, exhaust, cooling, wiring, computer, fuel system... pretty near everything that is involved with the engine will need to be changed, much better going to a modular, or like suggested build the V6... My car is pretty quick with a modded 2V, but there's a guy near me that has a turbo'd 97 V6 that runs low 11's in streetable trim.

lmao aaaahhhh he's from jerzey, the smog there is so bad u can SEE it in the air down the highway hahaha

on a serious note tho, yes, im confused as to why you would put in a 302, as opposed to a 4.6L 2valve??

ESPECIALLY considering you were plannin on just buyin the dern thing, its one thing if u have motor and tranny to just drop right in, but if u have to go buy those things....errr no... yes, you do need multiple fabrications to adapt from one to the next... the rear axle suggestion is also a VERY good cheap investment... hell i already put an 8.8 in my sixer just cuz lol but i think that if ur not emotionally attached to the 6 ur drivin, you should just buy a GT with a 4.6L in it! your car looks awfully clean so i think you probably spent a lot of time and money makin it what it is today... if ANYTHING, if u can find a nice 4.6L from a 99+ stang or an '01 crown vic basically anything PI motor, you wont be sorry, put the 4.6 in and not a 5.0... take it from a guy who loves both motors but i truly feel the 4.6 is better, but the 5.0 is easier... sooo take ur pick more money and more performance and fuel economy and a few other things or ease of installation and further maintenence
