So this morning I woke up and got in my GT to leave for work. When i started it, it sound louder than normal, like if my windows were down or something. Don't get me wrong, with an offroad exhaust and flowmasters its loud, but this was a different kind of resonance i was hearing. So i look in my rear view and my rear window is gone. Someone during the night took a razor blade and sliced all through my convertable top around the window and stole it. I live in a nice neighborhood where there isnt too much crime. This really pissed me off. I needed a new top anyways cuz this car is a 97 so the top is worn a bit. But i found out that my insurance company may end up making me pay for as much as half of it along with my deductable. I've worked my ass off for the past 4 years for that car and treated it like a baby since i got it when i was 16. Then some a.s.s.h.o.l.e.s come along and screw it all up. i dont understand.

that sucks... my friend had a fox body convt. and someone tore it to take his radio
That's why many people suggest never locking a 'vert because you can't secure a convertible. Anything someone can steal out of your car is almost always worth less money and hassle than replacing a sliced top.
Granted though, that philosophy wouldn't have helped DrummasterJ85.

Yea, locked or not the back window would be gone.
Put a high quality alarm in with a proximity sensor. Works even with the top down.
I have a multi zone so I can arm with or with-out the vibration and proximity warn-away feature. (Clifford RSX 3.5 with paging and 200-400 yard range) Not cheap but a great unit once you get the sensitivity settings dialed in.
Convertibles are cool, but things like this make me hesitant to ever consider owning one. Too many jacka$$es out there who want to steal from honest, hard-working people - or slice 'vert tops just to be cowardly d!cks because they have a beef with the owner, or just to be d!cks, even if they don't know the owner.
Then some a.s.s.h.o.l.e.s come along and screw it all up. i dont understand.
Don't try to understand. Some people just have no respect for others property. Stuff like this would almost tempt one to mount a flamethrower with proximity sensors under the car. Give one warning, then toast 'm. Too bad that idea is too prone to going wrong (parking lots and so forth).

Ditto here. Also I'm a bit weary about the noise ratio when driving a convertible vs, a coupe. That added to the fact that the amount of time one can actually drive with the top down in the Netherlands is kinda limited. Cold weather, rainy weather. More often then not the weather isn't suited for open driving IMO.
Okay, seems a little 'off-topic' after reading the other posts, but why is your insurance company trying to make you pay for half or more? (maybe because I've worked for an insurance company for 13 years, but that really jumped out).
I really do feel for you. Thankfully I've never had something like this happen, but I have friends who have. It's so wrong that good, honest people (like all of us here) work so hard for what 'we' have, then someone else who's too darned lazy to get off their butt and work comes along and takes it!!
Reply to FresnoGT Angel:
On my Drop Top about $950 installed with proximity sensor, shock sensor, hood and trunk pins (Magnolia HiFi 2004)
$1100 on my F350 with remote start , proximity, shock sensor, hood and canopy pins (Car Toys 2006)
Both are Clifford RSX 3.5 paging units that have the keyfob that looks like a little cell phone and will indicate what zone (hood, door, trunk, warn-away) has been activated. The range on the vert is about 400 yards, the truck 400 out the front and about 150 yards directly behind. These were both installed with the antenna along the top of the front window. Caveat: these are not alarms you can install yourself, and chances are the sensitivity will probably not be set right the first time, plan on a re-visit or two to the installer or ask how to adjust! Other then that these are probably the best units available, also sold under the name "Python"
PS also have a LOJACK on the 'vert, waste of money. Car could be 400 miles away before you are notified. There are some new tracking systems the work with the Clifford that are more instantanious.

'Verts are a treat. Bummer to have to use one for a daily driver (unless you live in ???) But if you are fortunate enough to have a garage to keep it out of the weather and somthing else to drive when the weather's crappy the're GREAAAAAAAT! Plenty of nice days here in the Rainy City (Seattle)
I love my vert- and I usually don't lock it- if someone wants in bad enough, they'll find a way.
Sorry to hear about your rear window.
You need a license plate frame that says 'Protected by Smith & Wesson'...and a S&W to go with it. :thumbsup
