Default 02 GT supercharged or 69 camaro restoration

OK guys, two choices....spend all my money on getting supercharged with none of my parents help (money).

or

get an r6

or

Buy a 1969 Camaro that needs to be restored and have them help me buy things for it. I'm really really really leaning twords the camaro because the 68-69 camaro is like my dream car. Anyway, if i decide to do this, i would be able to paint the car the color i want, do the interior the way i want, and the engine/ tranny. It already has a 454 in it but i would like a 427. My dad was telling me the 454 isn't a fun engine because it doesnt have the low end torque or anything, its only good at higher rpms. My dad had a 68 camaro as a kid with a 327 and he said that a 427 is the way to go if you have to go big block. Do any of you guys know a motor that i should put in there or do you think a 427 is a good choice and i have to stay with big blocks. And yes, the engine is what i'm most worried about. I want some hp under my foot.

P.S. I will be keeping my stang also.

Well, if your keeping the Stang, I say go for the Camaro. It's a sweet car and would be loads of fun to restore.

Yup... if you're keeping the Stang then get the Maro. It's a beautiful car and restoring can be extremely rewarding. I know... I've been restoring my 66 for a good 10 years now!

10 years!!! wow! i want to get most of this done in like 1 year or less. I want a new engine, and interior first, after the body is done of course. Paint and wheels will be last. I just dont see how it could take longer than 1 year to be most things done. I want to get in it and drive it!!!!

Oh, I hear ya loud and clear!

The 10 years is because we bough two other Mustangs and a Jeep for winter time and we couldn't justify digging in to the "meat" of the resto. We're 90% done and did that much in aout two years at a not real rushed pace. We just need some bodywork and paint. Mechanically she's perfect and drives like a dream. Note, though, that you're never done with a resto because there will always be one more shiny part of go-fast goody that is too good to pass up.

Have fun with it if you go that route!

Get the camaro. I've got my GT to keep my happy now while I'm in the process of doing a ground up restoration on my '68 Plymouth Roadrunner. If you think you're going to do a total restoration in a year, you need a reality check unless you have tons of money and will just bring it to a shop and have them do it for you. I'me going on 3 years on my bird and have only finished the Motor, tranny rear end and am just starting on the rear suspension. But not to discourage you, restoring a car is like nothing else, it will be totally yours, done how you want it and you'll love it.

How did it take you that long for the engine, did you buy it piece by piece because i was just thinking about buying an already built motor. How much did you spend on your engine, and how much have you spent so far?

I'd go the Camaro way, and there's nothing wrong w/the 454!

Once restored, the camaro will hold its value. Actually, It'll go UP in value. If you supercharge your stang, it will be worth less. I'd go with the restoratio project...

Well, it didn't take me 3 years to build my motor technically. I save up my money and then when I have the money I rebuild a piece. I built the motor myself and had a machine shop machine the block and crank then I assembled it. I have just a tick over 5 grand in the motor, about 800 in the tranny a grand in the rear end, a grand in the rear suspension, bought the car for a grand and thats about it. I guess the real reason it's taking so long is that one I pay for everything with cash so I have to save for it. and then I work about 55 hours during the week and then another 20 or so on the weekends so I don't have a lot of free time.

Well actually putting stuff on a newer car like the mustang is like throwing your money away when it comes time to sell it. The money you spend on the camaro will probably give you 80-120% money back. If you restore it to all factory trim or close it could be worth more money then you put in it. Yes a S/C mustang is going to be worth more but you have to find someone that wants it and will take the risk of buying one "you never know how hard someone drives a car" and most of the time thier is a reason people want to sell a car. I say go with the camaro.

I will can never sell my car unless I want to only get a 1/3 of what I have in it.

If a kid wants to buy a supercharged stang, I highly doubt his/her parents would let them buy the car. Because when a car is supercharged, more stress is put on the engine. And if it has a $hitty tune, the car is bound to early detonation. Most older dads know these things. I know I wouldnt buy a used car that was supercharged. Because you can never tell the quality of the install. I only trust myself when it comes to cars. Modding cars decreases their value, plain and simple. Whether its simple bolt ons or a S/C.
