screw GM's. my family hasn't had a GM to last more than 7 years except my grandmothers 19 year old BOnneville and that's only because she drives it 5000 miles a year.

My first two cars where a '85 grand prix and a '97 grand am. Now I own my Mustang and an Eddie B. Expedition. Trust me...I now know where the value of a dollar is...
However I do have one question...
My two vehicles listed above, same engine I think, both 4.6's
why 14 miles a gallon difference in gas? And this is relevant because I need to know about weight...one suggestion to me is to start lightening my car maybe with carbon fiber accessories and so on. Is changing these small items out fom lighter ones really make that much of a difference in my overall performance or is there possibly something wrong with my Expedition? 14 mpg vs. almost 28 mpg

14mpg for that biga$$ SUV sounds about right, 28 for the car is really good.

dont start replacing with carbon fiber - u are not a ricer - u now own american muscle - there are certain accents that i guess are ok - but don't pull everything off and replace with carbon ricer - that would be too depressing - my saying is like this - if you are worried about gas dont buy a mustang. Thats just how i feel

Yeah it's all about weight and rotational mass and driveline losses. If my guess is right youre Explorer is 4WD. Remember you've got to turn not only the driveshaft, but the transfer case also whenever it's moving. I know it sucks, mine is the same way. I've got the 4.0L and only get 19-20 on the highway with it.

To the first Q in this thread

If you are about "it sounds cool", then rev it up to 6K RPM.

If you're about going fast on the Q-mile, then don't go higher than 5300 to 5500 RPM.

With your 3.73 gears you don't want to rev the s*** out of your motor, it's not going to give you anything.
You need to maximize the area under the HP curve in between shift points.

Cheers
