Default Healthy RPM Limit

This would be a good one for mr wondi, to chime in on. Now that i got gears, my car see's a lot more rpms. So i was wondering what you guys will run them up to before you shift and secondly what is the max rpm i would wanna go and still get long term reliability. For some reason anything past 5k and it sounds like its gonna come apart. its probably normal but i dont wanna push it!

I push mine well past 5k almost daily, 6k at the track even though I know I shouldn't. I'm not sure if your superchips will do it, but a tuner would really help now adjusting shift points.

almost ever bolt on gt will drop power at 5300 5500 so shift around there, no realy need to go to 6grand + you will loose time and acceleration. i have 373s and i shift mine anywhere from 2-3 grand daily driven. i average still around 20mpg. lately with AC its been lower (damn florida) but its nto bad.

unless you are forced inducted or have cams, you shouldn't be shifting any higher than 5800 for peak performance.

As a side note, i do not suggest turning more than 6200-6300 on a stock shortblock, the bearings will not like you for very long.

With my nitrous and gears, the car used to hit the rev limiter at 5300 (even though my nitrous turns off at 5,000) before it shifted so, I had the red line turned up on my diablo chip to 6,000 and now it shifts at 5,500 fine every time.

I set my shift light around 5700 as my power starts to drop at about 5800. I figure by the time my super slow reflexes kick in, I'll be well over 5800. I sometimes hit 6K on my burnouts, so I plan on getting a line-lock to assist me there. If I knew someone who could put some forged internals in there for me cheap, I would do it. I'm to afraid to attempt it myself, especially since it's my DD.

Stock differential and axles, but they are next on my list. I only run my DR's at the track, Mickey Thompson ET street radials.

Are we talking about shifting during normal street driving at over 5,000 rpm's? I thought 3K was high for normal driving with the way and sound the engine revs? Am I driving like a granny or a smart owner that will have his car for 20 years? Don't get me wrong, I've had mine up to 6k but I was also leading up to 135 mph in 4th gear!...let me know if I've been too over-cautious and if I can have more fun safely.

It's a bit obvious there talking about racing (at least thats what I picked up on) As for normal driving I can drive around town all day and not go over 2500 rpm.

Sorry missed the one sentence in the one post about street driving, and all the context clues in the other post. When I'm driving a car it took me 14 years to save up to pay cash for i don't work or rely on context clues. thanks again for the help and next time you could email me if i make a mistake instead of calling it out in front of all our peers. have a wonderful day guys...sorry to put a blemish on your thread

oh, gm, haha...

and i do have problems and I have drank a few beers, haha.

anyways, i really didn't know what they were talking about. although I have a really cool car I haven't developed my knowledge of the vehicle or lingo yet. I'm surrounded by a combined 1 million years of knowledge...just remember some of us have about 3 months. So money, thanks for all the valuable input and replying to all my post so far. I'll try to lighten up just a little.

PS...GM(game master not general motors) is from an online game years ago when I was in highschool...before I realized it, all my user names were the same,so I kept it going...easier to remember.
