i swear if i didnt already shave my head, i would have pulled out all my freaking hair! so now i have gears, better suspension and way better tires, you'd think i would be running faster down the 1/4 mile. this is the part i dont understand. compeletly stock, i ran 2.283 60', and a 14.99 at 92.30 mph. then last night i ran a 2.261 60' and a 15.07 at 92.83 mph. it was 64 degrees out and the traction was awesome, they even use VHT on the track. so what the f*ck. i raced a Z28 and beat him, because he had a horrible reaction time (.0846 to a .3915), but he ran a 14.77 and almost caught me at the end of the track. This just doesnt seem right. its almost as if the gears made no differnce at all, if anything it made me slower. and i've been going to the track for years and i've raced a lot of different cars, so i know its not a driver thing. i get minimal to no wheelspin at launch. any ideas?

It's all in the launch man. You've got a heavy vert and an auto. Do you load up the converter or do you time the tree and hit the gas a split second before you get the green?

usually i load it up, but shouldnt my 60' times dropped quite a bit with the new gears?
but the whole vert auto thing, ran260gt ran like a 13.9 or something with a stock auto.

Whats up bro , how high is the track your running at ? are you dropping your tire pressure ?
Only load up your stang right before the light turn`s green , as in flash the converter , loading up your converter for to long will hurt your times !
And did you ever change your fuel filter , a few months ago I put a new fuel filter in and my stang ran a little better and if you never cleaned your MAF sensor its a must , I took it out and it was black with oily dirt , carefully take it out and spray it down with contact cleaner , you stang will run better and faster !
i actually did worse after installing my gears i ran 13.9 pre gears then i ran like a 14.3 cuz the launching was different, granted i have a manual but stilll... keep at it, takes a while to figure your strat out.

Better luck next time !
the track is 490 ft above sea level. i left the tire pressure alone, but i have cleaned the maf and i have a relatively new fuel filter. so how did you run such fast times. when my car was completly stock i ran a 14.8,but now that ive modded a little bit my times keep getting slower and slower.

I`m not sure whats going on with your stang , there is someone on the fourm with a stock I think 02 vert running a 14.4 !
Atco Raceway is at 92 feet , I got one of those Factory Freaks i guess !
Traction wasn't that great if you hit a 2.261 60"... I can tell you when I first ran my car I had about that 60".. then ran again, and hit a 2.0x 60" and my ET dropped .5.. Just keep trying - you'll get it.

Don't manual shift the car. I've seen in several cases where people actually hurt their times by manually shifting. The only time I've seen it help is when the tranny was J-moded or adjusted with a tuner.

i have the tranny adjusted with the tuner but i guess i will try not manually shifting it. however, the car doesnt seem to be spinning the wheels hardly at launch, and only having a stall speed of 1500 rpms, other than a better t/c what else will give me better 60' times? like i mentioned traction doesnt seem to be the issue.

Get some intake mods done and have it dyno tuned. Also let the rear tires down to about 25psi and bump the fronts up to 40 or so. I just looked and notice you have 18 inch wheels on it. Do you still have some decent tires on the old 17 inchers? That won't make much of a difference, but every little bit helps right.

true, next friday they have another street legal night at the track, so i'll put the 17s back on and adjust the tire pressure too. im gonna look into putting the car on a dyno to see if everything internally is up to par as far as horsepower goes. with what i got what would be a safe estimate as far as what the dyno numbers should show, to let me know nothing is a miss with the motor?
