The shorty headers are not worth it for the amount install will cost. Go with a high-flow catted x-pipe, still legal (so they say)! Your car did come with an h-pipe, the difference is it has a total of 4 cats and is 2.25".

bro, i just but the 2 chamber 30 series i believe on my 02 mustang gt i have an h pipe. the 40 series is quieter both inside and out. my 02 is also i convertible, the noise isnt really all that loud until you get on the throttle. flowmaster doesnt really advertise the 30 series, i dont know why because they are true race mufflers. not to mention the 30 is about 1/3 the size of the stock ones. with my set up, it sounds similar to a late 60's muscle car, similar, but not the same. however when i get on the throttle, you can hear the V8 in the exhaust, some people like it some dont, i do.

When I bought my car I installed the flowmaster force II sistem and a BBK catted X-pipe, I got tired of the silence and changed the flowmasters (I think they were 50 series) and changed them for some Magnaflows everything is 2.5 and I installed magnaflow tips(2.5 in 3.5 out, they look great) and while it's true the tips don't give you more power the magnaflows did wake my car up and the tips really focus the sound; I always leave my window open and the radio off just to hear my car.

X pipe, I don't believe has anything to do with emissions. My car was last inspected in Harris County, and I have a basani x-pipe with magna flow cats, and 40 series flowmasters, and it passed inspection and emissions testing fine.

Went with stainless tips...looks great, no sign of wear over the years, and gives just a little more rumble. I wan't to say they're 3.5" but not sure. I do know they're a little larger than stock.
