I have been browsing on another mustang forum site. Why do some mustang owners envy camaro's and firebirds so much. Why don't they just go out and buy one. They are basically the same price year for year. Anyways, some of them were saying that it is an impossibility for a stock mustang with drag slicks to run in the mid to upper 13 second range, and that a rookie driver in an ls powered gm could go low 13 to high 12 no prob, even with street tires. Mind you that ls's are a great motor but 12 sec for a rookie......come on. I go to the local strip often and there is a man....mid 40's..... that puts his stock 02 mustang 5 speed with 26x9x15 mickey slicks in the 13.6-13.7 range. I have seen it. I am not saying that the mustang is faster than the ls, just that give it some credit. 50 less hp and 70 less cubes, one less gear and keeps up. Just looking for someone who dosen't think that this is crazy. I was banned from the other forum because the "moderators and that other members, some of them have camaros?????? said that I was trying to start arguements. Why be in a mustang forum if you drive a camaro????? Thanks for the ear to all that reply. What is your best time, someone has gone in the 13's.
97 Gt stock, I ran a 14.56 at 7000ft.
I dont think your crazy man, I dont care for camaros, myself, but the firebird TA wasn't bad looking, and pretty quick. You just gotta be cautious of peoples backgrounds, some love GM, Some love Ford, some love Dodge, some love all, some love none. I personally couldn't be happier with my stangs, but I guess different strokes for different folks!
Main thing is, to stick around here, and I bet you $100.00 right now that you will find more mustang pride here then any other site on the net. Have fun, and make a difference!

Well, ever since the LT1 was intoduced the Stock Mustangs have been workign har to keep up. The LS1 is just a great motor and still over powers the current GT offering and we are 5 years past the last Camaro and now the new GT is heavier.
13's in the new GT's have been hard to come by in stock form, and the early 2V 4.6's were very anemic. Don't just look at Hp, but also consider the Torque. Those extra cubes pay off big time down low and tends to offset the extra weight.
With that said, I don;t feel a rooky driver on a 6-speed LS1 is going to go 12's. I have seen Stock LS1's with Slicks scraping at 12.9's in Columbus Ohio. Far from rookies though. Haven't seen many 4.6s without something major changed doing that, but there is more to a car than just the Hp number that you start with. Styling plays a big role. Pullign a 12 isnt rocket sciece... just get an old midsized car and drop a big block in it with low gears and sticky tires.
Just so you know, anybody with a interest in Mustangs, reguardless of what they own, is welcome here. They can discuss and share their opinions and experiences freely. They will not be allowed to flame on mustangs. Trolling absolutely will not be tolerated here, but if they can do it respectfully then their opinions are welcome as much as yours are.

Well said. I do respect all opinions, and do take both sides into account, and hopefully dosen't make anyone feel that I am looking to piss anyone off. It is the ones that say something cannot be done becaude they cannot do it. The members here do seem to have more realistic goals and outcomes with their cars. Hey, I have never owned a Ford before, and to my father, the mustang is against everything he taught me. Lol....huge GM fan. I have owned a 12.2 sec 67 RS Camaro, an 11.58 sec 86 Regal T-type and a 13.46 sec 1992 Z28. Not at once, but the last was sold due to a new baby about 5 yrs ago. The bought a civic, and did leave it stock. I now want to see what the Muatang has to offer. I just find that it is more refined, if you will, on the street. Like a sophisticated, elegant lady that has a blackbelt in Kempo if needed. Look forward to all of the great advice that this forum has to offer.
Alot of Stock 99-04 Mustang`s have run in the high 13`s , if you can drive and a few B/O`s you can run low 13`s !
Its strange but alot of Mustang guys love talking trash about Mustangs ! you would think Mustang`s are the slowest car`s ever made by the way thay talk !
That is exactly what I mean. Its like they bought something that they don't want. OR jealous of the other crowd.
Great 60 ft times for stock, even for built cars. What do you launch at??? What tires you running. Size and make. I have ran some 2.1 with 245/45r17 and know that I can do better. Don't want to change just yet.
Ive got a good answer why 4.6's rock. Go ahead and try to change the spark plugs on an f-body as fast as the ones on a 4.6. And If that doesnt smoke your pole why dont you put a new distributer on a LT-1 f-body. By the end of the day you'll hate your life. And you will realize well an f-body may be fast, but the 4.6 powered cars are better enginenered. (it's like ford said here is a good platform, now it's up to you make it fast)
Thats how I think of it anyway. Especially when my big heavy bird raunches someone on the street/strip. And you hear people say how did that 4.6 t-bird just outrun you?

Better engineered? I don't t hink so... THe LS1 is one of the most technoloigically advanced engines made. It takes a real enthusiast to know why. 15* degree heads are unheard of, hell NASCAR engines run 18* heads.
GM "had" the whole market with it's smallblocks for the past 15 years, but that domination is starting to diminish now.
I don't know so much about better engineered, but more user friendly for sure. I used to hate getting out of any F-body. Door sills are too wide, there's hardly any passenger side foot room. The back seat is even more of a joke than a Mustang's. The interior pieces are the cheapest plastic I've ever seen. And let's not forget that getting one on a stock suspension down a twisty road feels like piloting the Love Boat through the Panama Canal.
