Default 1996 GT VS 2000 Honda Civic

Can a 1996 Mustang GT automatic with dual exhausts and cold air intake, and has 80000 miles beat a 2000 honda civic with exhausts, air intake and some other modifications. I don't know what else he has in his car, all I know that it is light, and stick.
at the start off I told him he would beat me because his car is lighter and quick, but eventually in the long run I would be able to beat him.
What do u guys think? We are going to EnglishTown next week or so I want to crush his head because he always talks dirty about Mustangs

Without knowing his mods who could say .

First thing Mustang GT is a performance car even stock .

A civic is a economy car , more like a Focus .
If all stock the stang will beat either one of them in a 1//4 mile .

As for mods who knows how much money one wants to spend on
a crappy Honda civic to make it move .

With some good tires you should win .

You'll likely be able to beat him, unless he has a large extent of modifications. If I'm not mistaken Civics run like 17 second quarter miles, and even the MIGHTY SI runs a frightening low 15!!!! That's like being afraid of a Z24 Cavalier. You having an auto is what'll make him get you off the line, I'm sure it's much easier for him to launch that standard no matter what the gearing (not putting it because I'm not sure) than it is for you to launch that auto with 2.73's. Get some gears (even 3.27's like I have make such a difference) and let that torque pull you out of the hole so fast that honda won't know what hit him.

You will blow the doors off it modified or not, i have a 97 mustang gt that is basically stock. all's i have is exhaust done and a mild shift kit, and i blew the doors off of a 2000 and something dodge neon srt . the ones with the turbo that are suppost to be bad ass. well if you ask me i think the dodge neon srt's are a lot faster than a civic, so go ahead and race him , and when the race is over with and you stomped his ass, then ask him what he thinks about stangs then, i bet he wont be talking crap about mustangs no more.

I lost to a 2000 Honda Civic with "minor modifications" they said (engine swap, and some other goodies I found out) yea I didn't know that at the beginning, I wanted to test my luck, but the guy knew he was going to win (i'm completely stock 96 GT 5 spd). You may win, you may not. Give it a shot.

ask if he has a motor swap, or if its forced(supercharged/turboed)

if its none that race him. Otherwise if he has any of those than youll probably need a set of gears to know you can take him for sure.

Just race anyways- on a closed street far away from people-(esp the kind that can take your car, your license and you to jail : ) be safe

BEWARE OF THE FWD 4-6 BANGERS...

Every once in a while I'm surprised by what these little throw away cars can do. 1/8 mile gives me a run...get these guys on a long straight away or circle track and game over. I've never seen a Honda go 150 mph without blowing a head gasket straight from the dealer.

Street racing a v6 monte carlo the other day gave me wake up call...car lost but only with perfect shifting...I think my 5-speed was the only thing that prevented the loss. going to 3.73's now to give that extra off the line.

But good luck and even if you lose, you're still driving a mustang home and he's............still driving a honda

Yeah my bone stock 96 GT 5-speed ran neck and neck with a RSX type S on a 50 MPH roll to 100.
