I know the hood scoop looks great however you all know that has a solid black "honeycomb" cover. I know that the original hood scoops for for air induction to the carb...right? Is there a purpose or upgrade of some sort for this?
The only reason I ask is because after I install my gears and shifter I want to invest in the 3 piece billet grille and want to keep any other upgrade in mind while I have the top of the hood apart and I read on an earlier posting that someone had a "function hood scoop"...does this get into the ram air myth?

u are right in thinking that on the old school cars that had the functional hood scoops they were for the purpose of getting air to the carb. On our fuel injected cars however, its looks. making an opening to that scoop will not do much of anything. There really isnt anything in there that needs to be cooled off via outside air. If i were you i wouldetn waste my time making an opening in your scoop.

Thanks Brian...
I told my boss at work about my post on this...he has a 89 mustang with a huge hood scoop that is open...all he said was that you could drive for an hour, stop, and put your hand on the top of the motor and it was virtually cool...don't know if keeping the actual block cooler than what the radiator already does serves any purpose.

that could be true but im not sure that it would translate into any noticeable hp gains. Again if i were u i wouldent bother but if u do decide its worth a shot for shits n gigs, let me kno the outcome.
