I have heard 2 schools of thought on this question:
Do body kits make you rice when put on cars like a mustang?
One school is: "Rice is import cars, tricked out with **** mods that do nothing and only make you 'sound important' (Fart cans) and that Body kits, while some make you look like ****, others can enhance a cars features to match its power under the hood"
If it doesnt look stock, that doesnt mean its rice. It means its modified. But if it has a goofy wing, fart can, bright colorful paint schemes, or stupid looking body kits then YES, it is rice. But a cowl induction hood, or better wheels dont count as rice. but thats just me.

I have seen some 'kits' that looked pretty decent honestly. And I have seen some that I looked at and went "Oh. My. God" And laughed. I am a 'sharp angle' type. So When I saw one that had a tasteful front end with 'sharp' edges, slightly more pronounced side skirts, and a ass to match the front, I kinda liked it. No fart can, no shopping cart, no stickers. Just tasteful IMHO.
Also a little body kit hint, you get what u pay for if u go cheap you will spend more on the body work to make it fit or if it fits at all. Use the known name brands for parts. As far as look pick up a mag and see what u like and don't, and you can tell a modern hotrod look from import influenced kits. Also depending on your year will make a difference from rounded lines to sharp ones make sure u pick out out that will follow your cars body lines and paint job if you go custom.
A Saleen Mustang is a stang with a body kit. did you never notice that? lol.
A Roush Mustang is a stang with a body kit. a Steeda Stang is a stang with a body kit.
do you even know what "body kit" means?

True-but you must admit, those "body kits" look much better than most "body kits" avilable from the aftermarket sources....

the only thing I don't like about body kits is that the cheap ones shudder at any speed and a lot of them are generally tacky looking. The point is that taste can't be accounted for. If you want to run 24" rims, 10 rally fog lights, A sky high shopping cart wing, Type R stickers, eurolights and a giant airbrushed mural on the hood of dragon and Ronnie James Dio attempting to slay it in full barbarian garb it's up to you... you just have to understand the consequences of flamboyant tastes.

dude...you always have the most incredible advice.
back to the original reason for the post which asked for our opinion on body kits...I believe that some of the body kits available for the mustang are amazing. I don't like the huge plastic look of most of them but the more subtle kits with just enough flare to seperate it from the rest of the pack and maybe a nice spoiler with some lambo. doors! I don't think this will qualify you as a ricer. Unfortunatly sometimes we have to do things like put on body kits for someone on the street to know that it is beyond average. You can't drive by and people say, man did you see that CAI, haha.

Clearly there are exceptions to every rule. Including my statement of everyone here not making fun of questions that others ask. Oh mighty guru of the cars, I humbly beg your forgiveness.

It's ok...I've asked a few questions here especially when I first started that I felt ridiculed about to the point that I didn't even want to post anymore. I realized that was stupid because 90% of everything said he is actually pretty amazing. I've even had the operatunity to answer a few questions for some that I asked just months ago. It's about learning and helping one another grow in our quest to have a bad ass car and continue on with the great American tradition of Ford Racing. Some people are just equiped from the get go to drive Ford Escourts and not Mustangs, but we'll help them too because we should all be family
