Oh I can't stand dealing with the dealers service department
This has got to top the cake. I took my car into the dealer because of three things. Cd player eating CD's, carpet worn out by gas pedal and the drivers side window squeaks when rolling up and down.
Well the window problem and the radio is no trouble getting fixed. where the area service rep has a problem is I have FORD BULLITT RACING PEDALS. He says my car is a GT and Henry didn't install the Bullitt pedals at the factory (although they are fords part), he isn't honoring the warranty on the rug. This has got to be the biggest line of garbage I've ever heard of. The car only has 13,000 miles on it and it was bought back in April.
Re: Oh I can't stand dealing with the dealers service department
Waiiiit a minute. "CD Player eating CDs"?? Umm does this sound familiar? YOu have to put like a credit card or something and hit the eject button so it comes out? Is this the 6disc that you have? And what year's your car? Cuz thats EXACTLY what happens on mine. Also, my window squeaks (only in certain temps?).
And this one's for EVERYBODY that knows anybdoy at a dealership maybe you can help. My WHEEL has an AIR BUBBLE in it. I took it in, and the service manager claims that it was "damage" and not "defect" so "it wont be covered". However, when he took the tire off the wheel (all stock, never removed tire until he dismounted), the factory "machine marks" were all around the wheel except where the bubble is. Yes, its in the METAL iof the WHEEL, in the inner wall. Seems to me that Ford decided to fiorget to test things in '01... From what they told me, there were 14 different types of '01 bullitt style wheels made. That and the CD player both being defective? Hmm.
Finally, anybody know a GOOD Austin area dealer I can goto for service for this stuff?

Yes this is a 2002 6-disc CD in dash Mach 460 system. They are well known for eating CD's. It was so bad i had to keep a thin piece of cardboard in the console for digging out CD's.
The window squeal is another known problem in the Mustangs. Ford will fix it with no complaints.
Ok update: Dealer fixed both windows, Dealer also ordered a NEW Mach 460 head unit. I'm still fighting with the service mgr about the rug. I had him write it down as to exactly why he is refusing to replace the rug. his reason, again "Bullitt pedals". I went to the front office with this and filled a complaint with the PR person. I showed the PR person where the pedals are NOT rubbing the carpet and I should get word this morning on the outcome after the service mgr's boss discusses this with him. This could get ugly...lol
I've been where you are many times!! I have had warranty work done many times at many dealers, because I have owned 6 new mustangs.
You got the right idea. I never argue twice with a service writter about the same problem. I just go up the chain of command. Each dealer usually has a General Manager. Bug him or her a few times and heads will roll. Just because he is being bothered and they don't like it.
There are also Regional Ford Representatives which can make decisions on warranty items.
I also think there is a Warranty Dispute department at Ford. An 800 number in the manual I think.
You would be amazed at what you can warrantied if you got the patience to go after it. Even things that are out of warranty I have gotten replaced.
I once had a service writter tell me that I treat my cars like he does. He said he dogs them. I said you what? He said I drive them into the ground and just get a new one, and I don't expect to get warranty work for that. I said, have you seen my car? Take a look a that car and tell me I have driven it into the ground! And yes, I expect to get the warranty I paid for. He said, well if we put up on the rack and find anything that looks like it's been abused, we are going to charge you hundreds of dollars just for looking at it. SERVICE MANGER PLEASE!

Twister.... I pointed out that the Bullitt pedals are a stock item. My service writer is on my side, it's the service manager who states even though these are STOCK Bullitt pedals they did not come on the GT. I laughed at his stupidity. The Bullitt IS a GT! He then proceeded to tell me the Bullitt pedal mechanism is completely different from the GT's. OK, I say...show me the part numbers of both GT and Bullitt pedal arms. He didn't want to go that far. OH COME ON NOW, who does he think he's dealing with? This guy just needs to be quiet cause every word from his mouth proved to me he knows nothing about a Mustang GT. I'm still fighting with them about this so the saga continues. I'm still dealing with the PR person.
What gets me is the dealer gets reimbursed for the repairs from Ford. What's their problem. they aren't losing any money over this. Just maybe future customers.
I hate dealerships to. When my steering wheel had some noise in and then some plastic fell out of it I took it to ford to take a look.I give them the pieces and they said it will be done the next day.Ok no problem.I get a call the next day of them saying there was nothing wrong and those pieces were not in the blueprints??? I was like what? I was like come on,the wheel locked up on me befor those plastic things fell out. Then I go did you even take the wheel off? They go no sir.I go why not. They go that I had modified the radio...OOOOOKKKKKK I go wth does my two subs in the trunk got to do with the steering wheel??All I got was sorry sir nothing is wrong.I was ok fine. Then go figure a month later it does the same thing again but bigger pieces came out.So I go back and raise hell bout how I brought this in last time.Well they took the wheel off and found out that turn signal broke up and that those pieces are in the blueprints...GRRRRRR I wanted to strangle the manager that day.Which so happen to be the same ***** that said nothing was wrong the first time. But all in all that is still the only prob I have had with the car.It now has over 38,000 miles.

Well, Here's an update. I go back to the dealer today to see the General Manager. Now they say they want the receipt from the pedals to prove they are Ford pedals. Ok, all Ford parts have stock numbers stamped on them and a big Ford emblem. Do these people not know what a Ford part looks like? Well I don't have the receipt any longer. I had purchased these pedals in April. Therefore, even the city dump no longer have it.
The other thing that got me was, I had brought my car into another dealer regarding the service engine soon light and an error code. That time the dealer had refused to fix it because I had underdrive pullies on and blamed it on that. So, this dealeer see's that I had takedn it to this other dealer across town and said that I had been turned down for the carpet (which had never been taken in for the carpet before) already.
Alabama is an arbitration state so when you purchase your car you give up the right to sue the dealer. If you don't sign the arbitration agreement you don't get the car. hmmmmm. If dealers treat everyone this way for using their warrenty, no wonder people have to sue them.
I have an "authorized SVT dealer" by me who's parts dept. says the first cobra "R" was the 2000. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO where did the FAMOUS 95' Cobra R wheels come from? Not to mention the 93' "R". How the he!! are you supposed to order any of these parts then. They aren't the brightest people around at any dealerships i've ever been to. Good Luck.
when the bullits came out, a freind wanted one so we went a local dealer in my car, the salesman said that he would only let him drive a V6 so he could feel the suspension, so, I informed him of the differances, including that there is no rear swaybar on a V6, anyways, he looked at my stang and told me that I really did not know anything since I had a 4 cylinder, I laughed in his face, walked away, and reved me "I-4" high enough to set off a car alarm
I dont understand why they don't hire car guys for these jobs. Its looks real bad for the owners and General Managers. The porters are more knowledgable than half the parts and sales guys.
hmarv: That window squeal... how did they fix it on your car? For some reason all they seem to do on mine is lube the damn thing and then I end up having to go back later for the same thing.
Gagan
I'll answer that question for ya already. I got my car back either Thursday or Friday (dont remember which anymore)... The windows started squeaking again over the weekend. What the dealership said when I picked it up though was that Ford recommends lubing first, and THEN if that doesnt work, replace the "channel tracks" or somethin. She also said that she's seen this problem more in convertibles than hardtops.
Also, they gotta reinstall my deck yet again. They got a new one, but when they put it in they messed my whole console up. The deck's loose, the shifter has a gap, etc.
Gagan
I am not sure if it is a pain, but put the old "stock" pedals back on and take it to another dealer. Dealers must honor all warranty repairs even if you did not buy the car from them...
on the same note. I had a 99 ranger off-road and told them that my fog lights kept filling up with water and rusting the insides of the light...so they replaced the lights but literally ripped off the bezel that surrounds the lights and destroyed all the clips that held it on. Boy did I b*tch up a storm
