i hane an 04 gt and i got flowmaster and i want to get an x pipe what i want to knw is do cats make a difference. do they add or take away horsepower. what effects do they have on the engine and i also live in baton rouge, la and we have emissions laws down here so i wouldn't be able to legally get an inspection sticker but there are places i can get one at. can anybody help with sum info
If you can get an inspection sticker without the cats, why not? The cats do take power away but around 5-8 hp, maybe more if you have the 6 cat pipe. Just know if you go with the off road X, you pair that with those FMasters, it can get a little raspy. Some like it, some don't but you'll probably have "that" drone anywhere from 1800-2400 when you're at speed.

It all depends on what mufflers you have. I have two 2 chambered 40 series, and a BBK no cat X pipe and the car is soo much more responsive, and peppier, not to mention generally faster. You need some semi- restrictive mufflers in order to run no cats. If you have something like SLP loudmouths, which sound like crap anyway in my opinion, then youll loose torque. I love how my car sounds, and everyone says that there is no other mustang around that sounds like it.
I have MAC catless h-pipe with Flowmaster Super 40s. Very nice sound and lots of torque. (I got 10hp/25Tq according to the dyno, from the hpipe alone)
I'm very happy.
Pros - gobs more power, very good sound
Cons, illegal, have swap out for emissions test, your exhaust is a little "stinky."
