Question Will SVO heads make my 4.6 Mustang faster?

I was wondering if anyone can help me? my boyfriend is wanting to make the mustang fast. but one of his buddys was like it will never run a 11 flat, well he wants to get it there what should he do? He got a book "how to get max proformance out of your 4.6" and he has been reading it, but really he has no luck! he said something about putting some SVO heads on it. do you think that would be smart?

You may be better off posting your question in the Mustang Tech section, in particular the 4.6 Section. You will likely get more accurate responses.

Its a 1997 Mustang GT.well we got it 2 months ago and we have not done anything to it yet. but it has a K&N and a Cat back. it

SVO Heads? The only set of Ford Performance heads I'm aware of for a 4.6 is the 99-04+ PI head and intake swap kit, which would be a good upgrade. I'd PI swap it and drop on a Vortech blower. 400hp+ and 11 seconds wouldn't be a problem then.

PI swap=2000$
Scharger=4000$
All other accessories.....10,000 (fuel system, gears, internals, intake, plenum, TB, injectors, etc.....goes ion forever....)

This is for an 11 sec car..so 15,000 will barely help you....

My car is a 10 sec car and I have spent well over $50,000 on it......2 motors...etc.....

Start out slow, do the PI and see what you get from that...

If you want real power he will have to change out all the internals to aftermarket/racing and do a lot other mods that will cost $$$$.

FRPP does make the SVO heads, and they, in conjunction with the SVO intake, will make more power than stock PI heads. if you want power and reliability, swap the heads (go with a good set of ported heads), the cams (go with a good set of blower cams), and add a blower.

or do what tk421ds said. you will need to rebuild the bottom end unless you want to start blowing things out the side of the block.

I told him he could do what ever he wants to how ever much its cost! bc i am getting a Trans am LS1 within the next 7 months! puttin a cam on her new pipes and its all ready.He is going to have to make it fast so his girlfriend does not bet him! lol

Forged bottom end take engine out and in. $4500
New ported heads. $1700
Cams. $600
Transmission. $2000
S/C. $4000
Thats $12,800 and I would say probably $2000 or more talking tune, suspension, tires, and other things. I think you could make it for $15k if you have good luck.

Or he could do a mildly boosted application <10psi, rear suspension and some 4.30's. That should get him damn near an 11 flat for under 10 grand.

he is talkin about putting an S.C. on it?? and should he go API pro or NOVI 2000?? when it comes to cooling should he go AIR to AIR or WATER to AIR?

NOVI or VORTECH's application would work well.

Shopping around will be the key.

One of the best kits, per testimonies, is the MONGOOSE kit from MPH.
Works great on a stock motor, but he's going to tear into the block and build for power ... well, do your research.
