Default 1998 Mustang Cobra t-45 fluid question

a few questions i have on this...

1) we can use ATF in these, right?
2) heard we can and cant use synthetic ATF, which is true?
3) any down sides to over filling it?

i ask this because lately its been getting harder to shift into gears. the car is a 98gt that has a 98cobra t-45 (custom mount). last time i changed the fluid in it was when i bought it for the car a few years ago, im thinking it was about 3 yrs ago, maybe a little less. never really had a problem with it until the past few months, in which case its gradually gotten harder to shift. i adjust the clutch and it gets smoother for a little bit, then its back to being harsh (hard). i currently have mobil1 synthetic ATF in there, and i cant get the fill plug loose enough to check the level (not enough room with transmission still in car), so i was thinking of adding ATF thru the shifter, but i dont know if it will over fill it or not, and wanted to know if, like over filling the engine with oil, would be a bad thing. thanks for your help

ATF is fine. I like to use GM synchromesh (pennzoil) or Royal Purple sychromax.

Overflling is not good, it can cause aeration or blown seals.

isnt it just a 3/8ths plug? i personally use merconV plus a bottle of XL-3 ford friction modifier. my T5 shifts slicker than KY! (not kentucky)

overfilling it will make it leak out of the extension housing seal till it is leveled off or out of fluid.

it is, but for some reason its not coming loose, and the ratchet i have doesnt seem to want to fit good enough, i have to use an extention, in which case it wont fit thanks to the unibody...but ill figure something out. maybe just lower the crossmember a little to get some more room.

now as for that friction modifier idea, i take it that works?

and for the record, mine leaks from the extension housing because of the worn out bushing, not cuz i overfilled it. what now!
