lol your still missing it. The Mach 1 DJorgie is talking about is not S.C n doesnt intend to supercharge it if purchased due to the high cost. Its between a stock auto Mach 1 or a KB GT. I love the Mach, but a KB GT takes the win.

Not sure if I missed it throughout the thread, but what color is the mach? how many miles on it. Depending on where you live and miles on the car $21k isn't bad. I paid close to $23k for mine and it had 28,000 miles on it. Couldn't find one in Cali for any cheaper at the time.
Anyway, I ask those questions because there weren't that many Auto mach's made and I think a white auto is very rare for mach's....just wondering.
The mach engines are pretty damn strong, I would bump around on the www.mach1registry.com and someone might even be able to run the VIN and get you an OASIS report....that report will show anything a Ford dealership has ever done to the car.
Many of the people on this thread are right....better brakes, better suspension ( a little different than the bullitt suspension), better engine, better looks and if you keep it for 20-30 years it will be a damn rare car since only 16,xxx were made in two years.

I am going to put my vote for a car thats not an option either. For $22k I say find a 03-04 cobra and then you would be better off then both the mach and kb gt. But if thats not a option then go for the mach 1, their is a lot of hidden cost in S/C the gt. And the mach 1 will hold it's value better.

It is Dark Gray with 32,000 miles, Borla catback, C&L CAI, lowered, wider rear mach1 wheels. There is also a 2004 Azure Blue with 11,000 miles, auto for $23,xxx.
If I get the promotion I am hoping for tomorrow at work, I will be at the dealer tomorrow night.
Also, in case anyone reads this and is interested, the car and parts in my signature are going to be for sale very soon.
So why are you not putting a cobra into the options. They will keep their value a lot beter then both and has the t-56 6 speed and a forged motor with a S/C. It looks like you will be spending the same money on a mach as you would be a cobra. Mach 1 305 hp and cobra 390, but with a tune, pulley, and CAI you are looking at 400+ rwhp.

I dont really want a manual. Also, the only Cobras I have seen have been $30,000+. If I found a Cobra for $22,000 I would seriously reconsider not getting a manual.
I see them all the time for $20k. And I also see mach1 around $17k, So if I was you I would be looking in other states for cars looks like you could save up to $10k. Around here cobra's with KB's and whipples are running $25k-$28.

I think the Mach1 plan is going to be on hold for a while. I didn't get the promotion I was expecting at work, so I am starting a new job on Monday. Still not enough to allow me to get the Mach1. I am now thinking of getting a 94 or 95 GT and putting everything from my 89GT into it along with a DSS shortblock and Performance Automatic transmission. Oh well, I was close. All I know is I need a mustang because I am getting tired of driving my 2002 Impala all the time. I need to feel that power again.

Nothing wrong with a BULLITT suspension... hehehe
You should look around Arizona, Phoenix area in particular. Lots of this type of mustang. NEVER any rust here either.

Sorry to hear it bro. Nothing wrong with a 94 or 95 GT though... GREAT cars.

Get a GT- that way when people say 'Gee...', you can say 'no, GeeTee!'
Seriously, look at price difference between the 2, and miles, and all that.
I love the look of the Mach, but I think I'd still buy a GT and mod up!
Mach's were overpriced when they came out, and they still tend to be overpriced, IMHO.

If its NOT certified (and I'd be asking why not, with only 11k miles), its worth $22,000 from a dealer.
If you aren't interested in doing a trade in, and are just shopping for a car, the same car can be had from private individuals for something more like $20,000.
The other car, with triple the miles and some mods that might not work depending on your own plans (the CAI will have to go if you add a supercharger, for instance), isn't as good a deal.
The advantages of the Mach One over the GT are many...
1. Limited Edition car - collectible if maintained in the sort of condition that 11k mile car should be in. There are over a million GT's on the roads, but just a relative handful of Mach Ones.
2. All aluminum, DOHC motor vs iron block, SOHC motor. 260hp vs 305hp, with the weight advantage going to the more powerful Mach 1 (if both cars have aod's and similar brakes).
3. 3.55 gears vs 3.27 gears, and the Mach 1 has a posi rear end, too.
4. Automatic vs 5 speed. I own a 5 speed, and the mechanical clutch (vs the more modern hydraulic clutches found on most cars) is a clunky, noisy item. The problems with synchros on these trannies is infamous (particularly on cold mornings). In most drag race situations, the AOD will beat a 5 speed, too. The Mach 1 was the final year when they put the excellent HD AOD in these cars (the aod in the new 05's is a lesser beast, though more modern, and won't have the duty cycle or handle the power the Mach One version handles). Driving stop and go with this clutch and the stock shifter is torture.
5. The Mach 1's classic shaker hood is a pure expression of american muscle car. It's also funcitonal. The GT's fake scoop just increases drag and weight and blocks your vision at stop signs on hills.
6. The Mach 1 has a beefed up suspension and brakes, and unique wheels. The first thing I would have to modify on a GT would be the brakes, followed by the supension, followed by the wheels. By the time you do just this, you have spent more on the GT than the Mach 1.
7. The Mach 1 comes standard with the chin spoiler, while it will set you back $100 to buy one, drill holes, and install it yourself on the GT.
8. The interior of the Mach 1 is upgraded from the GT, and has some really nice visual touches here and there.
9. You can supercharge EITHER car, though it will be slightly more expensive to do so with the Mach 1.
10. Comparing value for value, you get more for the Mach 1 to start with. I also don't see the price differential between a 2004 GT and a Mach 1 (both with identical mileage and an AOD) being large enough to pay for a KB blower install.
PS: Ran a check on the difference in value between a comparable 04 GT and the Mach 1. $2000. If anyone knows where I can get a KB installed for $2000 on my 02 GT, let me know.
