Default 2000 mustang looking for side scoops

I lost the passenger side scoop on my mustang. I was wondering if anyone could help me find one, I'm in Colorado. Thanks

Welcome to the forums. You might check the classified section of the site; if you don't find anything there, you will find a business direct section in the classifieds also. Glad to have you at the site, come in cruise around and post a pic or two of your ride.

Default Side scoop

I lost one too (they tend to blow off at speeds above 140 mph), particularly on cars before 2003 (that's when they changed the clips that hold on the scoops).

I bought a new one from a Ford dealer (they come already painted your body color if you can find one in stock) for $150. Used would be a LOT cheaper, and there are companies that specialize in selling new-take-off items (Ebay is also a good source). People that put kits on their cars often swap them out and will sell them. (I was in a hurry and couldn't wait for shipping, or I would have pursued this).

Make sure you get all new clips (dealers sell them as a bagged kit) - the new ones grip twice as well as the old ones, and are larger.

Welcome aboard AFM!

I just took two off of my car. I replaced them with Saleens. They are in great shape and they are silver. I would like to sell them both together. I could ship them to you if you are interested.

Check this web site I found the scoops you needed listed in the MM&FF magazine. Latemodel Restoration Supply - America's #1 Restoration and Performance Parts Warehouse for V6/GT/Cobra starting @ $79.95ea.

First thing to do is pick the shop that will perform the work. Talk to them about the price and how it will be affected if you bring them parts. Be aware that imported body parts may be cheaper to BUY than OE Ford, but that sometimes they don't fit as well or may need additional work to install - and shops will often charge more labor for them.

If you are buying the OE side scoop from Ford, they usually sell the grill insert seperately. Aftermarket versions come both ways, so you need to contact the source and see what they say. Many suppliers will ship the scoops already painted, which can save you some money (though be sure to check that the paint matches - some colors (like metallic silver) are much harder to match than others).

If by "side panel" you mean the quarter panel, this is actually one of the more difficult repairs since this part of the car is part of the unibody - not a seperate piece bolted onto the unibody.

Hope this helps. Best thing is to pick a shop and start talking to them BEFORE you buy any parts. Best of luck, we've all been through it!

Smile lol

haha thank you

ya i've got about 6 lined up just to get estimates from.

but from what i'm hearing everyone tells me it'd be cheaper just to use the body shop bc a lot of places won't give me the warranty on the paint if it chips or something.

and ya i have a black car so it's hard to find just the right shade of black to match.

thanks for your help!

haha
