Default Advice needed on Mach1 shaker hood scoop mod

Well I am going to buy the Mach1 shaker hood scoop kit and I have a few questions ? Does anyone know where the cheapest place to buy it is? The place I am going to get it through is selling it for $829.00 and the body shop is estimating 4 - 6 hours labor for the install ! Ok I know what you are thinking $1,300 for a mod that only gives you around 10HP gain but it is soooooooo cool looking I would try the install myself as the instructions are very detailed but I am afraid to cut the hole in my hood. So has anyone else done this mod ?? I think that it will look great on my Mineral Grey GT I will also do the Mach1 chin mod. I would love to add a Vortech but I am afraid of killing the warranty as my car only has 4K miles on it.

Jeff,

you can buy it direct from Classic Design Concepts for $795.00. Also from what I hear the kit includes a template and an applique witch should cover any roughness. If it were me I would give the install a shot. Take a look at the install instructions at www.classicdesignconcepts.com.

I like the way the shaker looks but will not work with the s/c I have chosen to go with, however they do have an application that will work with a vortech. There was an article in a MM&FF a while back that had a Bullit with the shaker and a Vortech.

One other option is to go with the ram air system that uses your current hood scoop which used to be made by KarKraft and is now distributed by www.yearone.com (do a search for part# ram99blk). Here is a link to someone who has installed this kit and provided some pointers and nice pics. http://members.toast.net/BillGold/_RamAir/RamAir.htm

Make sure you post pics when your done...

Jeff, I just got your PM this morning. I don't have any way of getting that kinda kit. I looked into it already. There is no company that I am aware of that my company does busniess with that I could order it from. Wish I could help ya with that, but I don't have a way to order that type of kit.

Matt, No problem I have found it for $699.00 but I have not ordered it as of yet as I sent an e-mail asking a few questions to the forum that is selling it for that price. I have been told that I should try the install myself but I am just afraid that I will screw the hood up. I have a labor quote from my local body shop of 3 to 4 hours and that includes painting it the flat black and matching the pin stripe from the Mach 1. This same forum also sells the chin spoiler for $65.00. Hey Matt if it were you would you try the install yourself ??? LilBluP1 Thanks for the info but that kit cost as much as the CDC Shaker and you still have to cut the hood. Either way I will order it today and should have it on by the end of next week and I will post pics.

Thanks.

I would pay a shop to do it... I really hate body work. I personally wouldn't do it. But you can do what ya need to do. You know I saw another silver mustang GT in Castro Valley on monday with the cobra front end the Cobra R hood, and cobra rims. I was like damn, someone took my idea . Oh well... They prolly have more money then me

Default Shaker Hood Scoop and chin spoiler have been ordered !

Ok I have ordered it and I am told that I should get it by the end of next week. I also ordered the chin spoiler and now I am wondering if I should have the shop that is installin the shaker hood spray the chin spoiler or just leave it black ??

Matt I don't remember if you said you were able to get exhaust parts or not as I am allso planning on doing at least a catback system so let me know I don't have your # to the shop Anyway the shop is telling me that they will need the car for at least 2 days so as soon as it is done I will post pics and BTW they are kinda pumped about doing the mod as they have never done one before so they are going to give me a 20% discount on the labor

Well, the chin spoiler is black to match the scoop and the Mach 1 spoiler...it might look cool if you paint the scoop, as well!

If it were me, I'd look and see how they did it on the original Mach 1's. As much effort as Ford put into making these a somewhat retro vehicle, I'd carry on that theme a lil more.
