More newbish questions, and im pretty tired so please bear with me if none of this makes sense. So i finally starting digging into the motor to get it rebuilt. The car originally had a romeo motor in it, bought a new long block with rod knock, turns out to be a windsor motor. From reading 13 pages on the differences between the two series and various identification markings, I've come to the conclusion that it came out of some sort of 1999 car. I originally purchased main and rod bearings for the romeo motor. Everything I look up says the main bearings are the same for all 99 ford everything 4.6l, no options for vin numbers of romeo or windsor. The only difference is 99 mustang. That is the only vehicle that gives me a part number for the bearings, but is also the only vehicle i know for a fact came with the windsor motor. So oo, my question, does anyone have any information on the bearings, the romeo ones fit, and look the same other than very slight differences in the thrust washers. Is it safe to use the bearings I have now as long as the clearances are with in spec? or should i look into getting a set of the mustang bearings and seeing what the difference is?

I will have a couple head questions once i get this bearing issue resolved and bottom end back together.

rod bearings and main bearings between the 2 engines are different, so you have toget the correct one for the engine...either Windsor or Romeo..

rod bearings seem to be the same for the two motors, i just found the difference in mains, but cause that motor was randomly stuck in different cars and i dont have a vin number im shootin in the dark, i have 1 idea, im going to the parts store now to see if im right.

well, from where I sit (which is in the parts department of a Ford dealership) rods and mains are different bewteen the 2 engine familys......

not saying any one is wrong, just saying from everything i look it it shows they are the same, I believe the motor is from a 99 crown vic, VIN 9, when i look it up for that motor, its crosses over to the 98 town car (windsor) as far as the rods go, but the mains are different. Ive got a buddy in ford parts department tryin to help me out on this but says there is no 100% way to do it with out the vin from the vehicle the motor came out of.
Randy, do you get a different answer lookin the rod bearings up between the two cars?

crank is in and everything is good, only issue now is, I cant get the oil rings to compress on the pistons? amd i missing somthing here? this isnt my first motor build, but this is my first american motor build, its a sealed power ring kit, top and bottom compression rings fit nice, good gap and compress, but once the oil rings are all on the piston together, they will not compress anyone know what is going on here?
