Default Engine Knock

Ok i just recently purchased a 96 GT from a friend of mine that ive known for a while. The engine has a knock after 2500RPM and goes away around 3500RPM he told me that when his mechanic rebuilt it he didnt place oversize barrings that where needed and that is where the knock is coming from. He also mentioned that he had 2 replace the oil pan due 2 hitting something. Also the other day i heard another different kind of knock that sounded 2 b from the top end and only hear it whenever the motor gets warm after about 20 miles. my question is would replacing the oil pump sstop this cause maybe they bent the pick up and is giving the oil through the motor that is needed...any help would b apreciated it...also the car is all stock

changing the oil pump wont do anything, sounds to-me like a main bearing issue, you'll need an engine....

so why is it that it only does it whenever the motor gets warm, it doesnt do it when i first start it and drive about 30 miles. its a totaly different knock than the main bearing knock that is at 2500RPM that ive had since i got it. its a deep knock and the other one is a high pitch knock

well any engine "knock" is a bad thing...it could be a rod bearing or wrist pin too....if the crank was turned .010 under and they did not use the proper rod bearings or main bearings, then the clearence would be too great and they'd prob end-up spinning on the crank and theres your "knock"

you can buy re-ground crank kits which come wth the correct size rod and main bearings, price on a crank kit should be under $200.00

I Had The Exact Same Problem With My 2001 Bullit. I Took It To The Ford Dealership And The Are Putting A New Short Block In As We Speak. I Would Only Hear The Knock After The Motor Warmed Up And Between 2500 And 3500 Rpms . Sorry About You Luck But Your Main Bearing Is Going Bad Better Start Looking For A Motor.

I agree with the others, you're going to need a new motor or a rebuild. Best bet is probably to go to a good reputable machine shop and have it disassembled and everything checked by a good machinist.
