Default Clutch pilot bearing removal

ok guys.. i can remove/rebuild engines but i cant yank this clutch pilot bearing out of the rear of the crank. this is the bearing where the tranny shaft slides into and stabilizes itself. I used my buddies slide hammer and i still couldnt pop it is there a trick to this im forgetting about?

Default pilot bearing removal

this is probably going to sound dumb but it really works. get some bread and stick it in the hole and find something that you can beat on the will just fit in the hole without getting stuck in it. once you have all that get a hammer and start pounding the bread in. you will have to keep putting bread in the hole but it will pish the pilot bearing out. it really does work. i use this trick on all clutch jobs that i do.

OK! i tried the rediculous sounding bread thing.. worked perfectly, the grease must have been way to lean and it kept coming from the side.. so in conclusion.. 2 slices of greasy bread = ugly looking removed bearing.. thanks alot both of you guys i wouldve never thaught of the bread thing though

Try a pilot bearing puller. You can rent them at any parts store (usually). Beating on the pilot bearing will cause small nicks and dents in the hole. Eventually, your pilot bearings will start wearing out quicker due to this.

actually i stuck a wooden dowl in the hole and beat on that. pretty much beating on the back of the crank, i lubed up the bearing though and odly enough i had to beat it a bit putting it back in

Yeah, I never had good luck putting them back in. I usually use a small piece of wood thats bigger than the hole and gently pound on that so the bearing goes in even.
