Default 4.6 Block Questions

If one were to look for one of the best aftermarket 4.6 blocks, were woul one be buying from? All i have heard from my friends is Dart blocks this and Dart blocks that and i need to know if these are really the strongest blocks to buy and if not were should i be looking. I appreciate any insight into this question, thanks

When they are saying Dart blocks they are talking about the 5.0's. Are you wanting to do a 5.0 swap? The actual 4.6L block will last for quite a good amount of power. If you are talking about a short block then just look for a good name of forged internals and go with them.

imho, no "aftermarket" modular blocks are needed....pretty-much ALL the 4.6 blocks, aluminum or iron are pretty tuff, I've not head of any issues wth them like you had wth the 5.0's splitting

I agree ^, but if you are looking for the creme de la creme of 4.6 blocks check out fords new 5.0 Boss block it is a new design and addresses some of the issues found on stock blocks. Here is an article about it FRPP Boss 5.0 Block - Cast-Iron Modular Block - 5.0 Mustangs & Super Fords Magazine and this is where you can find it in the FRPP racing catalog Ford Racing Performance Parts [M-6010-BOSS50*]

Oh one thing I forgot to mention. With a stock 4.6 crank the block will displace 5.0L hence it's name but you combine it with a stroker crank you get a 5.3L.

So if i just picked up a stock 03 cobra block and put the right parts into it, then there would be nothing to worry about, even with a turbo?

The Teksid blocks were from the 96-98 Cobra's and they were aluminum. The 99+ Cobra blocks were all Iron.

96-98 cobra blocks are aluminum teksid blocks, 99-01 cobra blocks are aluminum windsor blocks, 03-04 cobra blocks are the exact same romeo blocks that are in the 96-98 and 01.5+ Gts. The only difference is the cobra blocks are machined for 4 bolt mains and the GTs are only 2 bolt mains. The stock gt block from 96-04 will handle more power then 98% of people will ever build.

no it cannot and even if it could, the cost would exceed the price of a 4 bolt block...yes you can put DOHC heads on it but you'll need alot more parts to make the conversion, so again you may want to shop for a complete DOHC engine....
