Default exhaust talk HERE we go....

So, I recently bought some magnaflow axle backs. They sound good when I'm on it but when just crusing around I'm not getting that loud gruMble I was looking for. I'm now looking at getting some bbk headers and a magnaflow mid pipe but wandering if I bUy some flowmaster axle back would that solve my quest? I want that musclar grumble sound but sexy not annoying loud. HELP!

The mid-pipe will help, can you run an o/r midpipe? That will increase the sound and the Magnaflows will sound great.

If you upgrade your axle back setup I would think flowmaster will be louder, SLP Loudmouth would be the way to go if you want to make it louder period. Magnaflows are more intended for slightly louder at higher RPM and modest for low RPM cruising.

Same boat here....

Maggies sound FANTSTIC when on the pedal, but kind of sound "puffy" around town....I know, puffy? I don't know how to describe it though...It's a nice sound but too muffled sounding....
It sounds "puffy" to me

I too, am not looking to wake the dead and i HATE DRONE so Flows are out of the question.

FWIW I get tons of compliments on my 2003 vert with Maggies catback, but I want a little more "edge and deepness"...

As an example an eclipse with a fart can passed me on the road today at about 75mph, light throttle, and HIS exhaust sounded DEEPER than mine!!!
My top was down so I could hear it.

I was thinking of swapping in Corsa DB mufflers or maybe Bassani mufflers both of which I think will swap right in with no problems.
I have the full Magnaflow catback BTW....

I've heard a number of midpipes and to be honest, as far as the catted versions are concerned (which I need for emissions) I haven't heard much of a difference in sound compared to the stock H-pipe.

Any advice to the both of us?

Magnaflows sound great but arent the loudest or meanest sounding exhaust. If ya put an x pipe on there, you will be happy. X pipe go great with magnaflows and it doesnt have to be an o/r pipe, especially since ya dont want it too loud. I put a catted x pipe on mine and it made it a lot louder.

Hey 04!!
Coincidently I was looking at the Bassani X pipe but I have 2 concerns....

Does it make the car "Nascar sounding", like that high pitched weeeeeeeeeee kind of sound or does it retain the deepness of the original H-pipe only louder?

I've heard a couple of Maggie systems with Bassani X pipe ONLINE and they sounded great, but how is it in person?
I'm looking for a little more edge, some deepness but avoiding the screaming Nascar sound..

Second conern is how low do the cats hang?
My car is a DD and my wife does drive it on occasion and she is clueless about stuff like that...

Any reason why you went Bassani over the Magnaflow Tru-x pipe?

TIA!!!!!!
Steve

The Bassani catted x pipe does add a raspy tone to the magnaflows as any x pipe would. It will still have the same deep rumble to it, just more edgy i guess ya could say. Your car will become louder with a mean sound to it but not too loud as long as ya keep those cats. An o/r pipe will be very pissed off sounding and have that nascar pitch. I love the way my car sounds now with the x pipe, i get compliments all the time about it. And it is a little louder at idle too. I think ya will be happy with it, and the reason i went with bassani is i like to mix up the exhaust, instead of having all magnaflow parts (which there is nothing wrong with a all). The magnaflow x pipe will sound jsut as good, and also just as good quality as bassani. Oh and i havent had a problem with the cats, dont sit too low at all, and my car is lowered about 1.5 in. and no problems goin over speed bumps or anything.

Thank you very much for the post!
Sounds like that is what I'm looking for because i want a little more loudness and rumble but not as much as an O/R pipe which would be way too loud for me.

Thanks again!
Steve
