I think I found a guy to do my gear swap, but he's pretty set in his ways and firm of opinion, and he refuses to install any foreign made gears. I know that Motive Performance gears are made in Italy, and I'm sure that many of you guys use them with success, but he says they're crap. I would like to assume that Ford Racing gears are made here in America, but who knows anymore. He's also quoting me an installation price of 8 hours @ $79 per, or roughly $640, NOT including the $450 or so he wants to charge me for the parts. Ouch.

What have all y'all's gear installs been like in terms of manufacturer, quality, satisfaction, and install prices? Thanks.

I wish i could post what im about to tell you on the top of this page...Motive now makes the gears for Frp...The Motive performance plus gears are superior to Frp now...Frp is pretty much a stock replacement...Now the Motive performance gears go threw a extra hardening process...witch makes the capable of handling more hp and torque...also they are lighter....Im sick of these dudes at shops that don't know jack about gears...also stay away from that dude he is trying to rip you a new butt hole on that...the gears are only 170 then the rebuild kit and bearing kit is only another 129...and you should only pay 200 to 350 to have them installed...tell that dude to shove it where the sun don't shine...lol

i got to agree with charlie about the overcharge. hes right about double the average price around here for a rear end swap. i got my old v6 done for 300 and was quoted 340 or so everywhere i called. i had motive gears put in it and they were very quiet. the 4wd shop that did mine told me they use motive all the time.
