1st... The pop probably is from your front end, tie rod ends would be the first thing I checked, although the rack bushings could also be gone, etc, etc. If the car has been lowered this might be causing bumpsteer, too, and putting additional stress on the tie rod ends. What mods, if any, have been done to the car?
2nd... Sounds like you have a tune issue, maybe IAC, maybe fuel injectors, fuel filter, etc. Check for trouble codes first, they may give us some leads.
3rd... Swapping a 5.0 (and you will need EVERYTHING on the 5.0, a complete transplant) into your car is more trouble than your list would indicate. The
tranny will not mate up unless you swap in a compatible T5 (Cobra version if you're smart), or TKO, T45, etc, correct bell housing, or aftermarket steel bellhousing ($400+ by itself). Driveshaft to match, naturally. Sensors and wiring are often incompatible in key areas, and getting everything to work properly gauge-wise can be tough (swap in the old 5.0 gauge cluster? I guess it could be done)...
Sure, its POSSIBLE to do it, but I've rarely seen a good economic scenario for this sort of thing.

1st...every since i put the motor back into the car i've been hearing a "popping" sound coming from the front end...i thought at first i had a motor mount problem but had them inspected a couple of days ago and the mech. said they were fine. my wife had taken the car in so she didn't know to ask about any possible front in problems. it really only does it when i'm taking off with the tires being turned at the same time....like backing or pulling out of a parking spot. not so much when i'm going over speed bumps, although when i go down dirt roads slowing i can sometimes hear it. it also only comes from the driver's side.
2nd...in the morning when i'm leaving work my car loses power as i downshift into first coming into a stop and sometimes dies, or if i first fire it up and hit the gas, it may die...if i drive it for 10 minutes or so, kill the engine, and then start it back up again...like after getting gas, the car comes alive and drives better than it did when i bought it. any ideas?
the question...are there actually any folks are this forum that have dropped a 5.7 or 5.0 into there 4.6 mustang...if so what is the labor and cost really like? i've heard all you need is a new wiring harness, computer, and mount adapters. is this true and what could i expect performance and longevity wise from doing this? it seems that the 5.0 was the better engine and dollar wise a much better buy. i never had the chance to have one so i personally do not know any better. thanks for the help. |
