Default speed shifting question.

I was just wondering if and of you speed shift your car without using the clutch. I was talking to someone who said in some cars when he use to race he would shift without the clutch. This was told to me from an older guy so i guess he was talking about cars back in the day. I was wondering if anybody does this with there cars (newer ones) and how bad is it on the car.

I've never heard about speed shifting, but i know that my dad can shift without using the clutch but there is no reason why not to just use the clutch...Anyone else here of this??

some transmissions you can shift like that, but on a stock tranny, you most likely will break it and you wont see much speed improvement.

you can shift like that on any trans if you want but there's no point in doing so because your trans is syncronized and you'll mess them up if you dont time your shifts correctly

proshifted transmissions like a jerico don't require the clutch between shifts, but they're race transmissions.

if you try to speed shift without the clutch you'll destroy your transmission.

Are you referring to powershifting, where you shift extremely fast with the clutch while the having the gas pedal still pressed?

My Dad taught me years ago to do the speed shift, he said the ARMY taught him just in case the clutches went out in the jeeps and trucks that they knew how to do it. It does not speed up your time in the shift it actually slows it down cause you have to wait til the gears maunally sync up. It all in feeling the tranny and applying slight consistant pressure until it shifts. It's simple to do but if you miss a gear you grind, it's not worth it on the new cars. Priced a transmission overhual lately???? It is a thing of the past. It can be done on any manual shift... but like all others said, WHY... Have a great one JT...
