Arrow 1998 Mustang GT front turn signal problem

If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Recently purchased a 1998 GT 4.6 and the turn signals stopped working. Replaced the flasher unit and they still did not work. Installed a new multi-function switch on steering column and the rear turn signals work and the front left works but the front right does not blink.

Installed the old flasher unit and the right front turn signal was rapid fire blinking while the left was normal. Installed the new flasher unit and the blinking was normal but the front right does not blink.

The bulb is not burned out as when I turn the headlights on the turn signals light up.

The fuse panel diagrams do not show a seperate fuse for the right and left hand front turn signals.

Is the multi-funtion switch bad? Is their a short somewhere? Does a fuse control this mechanism. Any help would be appreciated if anyone else has gone through this problem. Thanks

Hiya, welcome to the site. It's most likely the multi function switch or the harnesses going to it, there 3-4 of them. It's very common.

Default update!!!!

I was reading some articles and it said to turn the emergency flashers on and off a few times as the circuit for the turn signals go through this switch. I did it a few times and then all the signals started working. I turned off my signals and hit the emergency flasher button again and they worked. I then turned them off and hit the blinker switch, and now none of the turn signals work. Frustrated is an understatement. Any ideas. Is this a short? or is there a special fuse that may have blown that controls the turn signals other than the flasher relay which is new and the multi functional switch is new. Any help greatly appreciated.

Any Suggestions? silly question

look carefully at the right front bulb elements. are they touching inside? inspect the other front and rear if necessary. Slamming the hood or trunk with bulbs on sometimes will damage the elements. The socket connections can not be too clean-hint and neither can grounds connections nearby. Start simple and cheap, usually works for me.

Default tech

If the switch makes any lights come on then it is usually good. The lower the electrical resistance the faster the blinks I.E. bulb about to burn out. 9 out of 10 its a high resistance fault like a corroded socket,Ground or connection anywhere in the circuit but usually near the outside of car from water. Also a bad collision repair job or non water tight connections used. Seen many a crushed unfixed wire harness. One side blinks is not the flasher! it flashed did it not? bad or wrong bulbs and wires and sockets baby! 12 volts is low and very susceptible to bad connections. Shorted, touching elements can still work as markers but will not flash. Front works but not back is not usually the switch but bad circuit. New switch may fix for a while but high current will burn it again. Find the actual problem and you will know satifaction that techs feel.

I am also having a problem with my 98, the front right turn signal, when i turn it on with no lights it works properly, with running lights still works fine. When it comes to the headlights on the right lamp is dim and the right turn signal is dim to not even noticable..i pulled out the headlight bulbs and didnt see anything wrong with them. Ive tried coming up with reasons why but none seem to help, any ideas??
