Unhappy Need some help on SN97 Front brakes ( a little long thread)

Ok here goes .... I had a rattle when going over bumps (or imperfections in the road). Took apart the passenger side front wheel .. everything looked normal... Took out the pads and applied some brake liner liquid (lack of a better term - blue sticky liquid). Let it dry and put it back together.
Went to the drivers side and noticed that the sping anti-rattle thingee for the brakes (on the caliper) was missing. Called the dealer ... they had in in stock and ordered it. Meanwhile, I did the same thing on the break pads as on the passenger side.
Now, went for a ride today (took it to work) and the brakes now squeak ?? Went to the dealer to pick up my part and told the service guy, he tells me to remove the brake liner.. ok .. so I come home, put the spring loaded clip in, take out the brake pads on both side and removed the liner (with an exacto knife). ... Get back in the car .. go for a ride and the same damn squeak !!! When I apply the brakes it stops ... any ideas ??

The only thing I found different from the driver side than the passenger was when I removed the caliper on the driver side, there was some rubbery compound on the mounting part on the spindle (where the pads sit ...) can this be it ?? I removed some of it .. to make everything clean ..

any ideas ?? anyone had the same experience ??

as usual .. thanks again !
Ralph

Smile part II

Went for a ride today and noticed that the squeak was almost gone but still there ... so back in the garage and removed the front tire and caliper again and this time I applied High Temp (red) gasket maker. I figured this will do the trick .. applied at the same spots as the brake thingee and re-assembled everything .. will find out tomorrow ..... hopefully this will work this time!

Let me know if anyone has any other ideas or experienced this

Thanks
Ralph

Its a bad idea tou use RTV gasket maker on you brakes for like a hundred reasons, just clean everything off reall good and put it back together clean. If the squeak disappears when you touch the brakes, sounds like the spindle bearing, spin it with your hand a see if it feels "gritty" for lack of a better word. It should rotate smootliy and evenly.

When I first removed the brakes the first time to put the spring retainer (anti-rattle clip) the previous owner had brake liner there ... when I had cleaned it - it started squeaking. I re-applied it and the sound dimished by like 1/2 .... if not more. So I decided to use the RTV maker .... It's like on my durango the pads (where they sit on the caliper mount) you can tell there is wear and tear (age)... so spring retainer clips are required to prevent the play that's there.

Same thing I noticed on the mustang ... it's wear and tear on the metal where the pads sit ... over the years ... so the brake liner thingee did it's job but maybe I applied it and did not wait long enough to put everything back together .

All I know is when the car is off it's front wheels the wheel spins freely .. but does a little squeak sound on one revolution ... when I applied the RTV yesterday and did the same test the squeak was gone .... so I doubt what you are saying is the cause ... but to be seen .. .thanks for the input .. always appreciated !!!

thanks
Ralph

Thumbs up Update - problem solved

Ok here goes .. removed everything again .. cleaned the spindle where the brakes sit .. cleaned it out real nice and shiny ... cleaned the brakes where I had put that **** ... put some white grease where the brakes sit... swaped the inner and outer pads position .. so the one that was on the caliper cylinder now sits on the outside and vice versa (also put some braker liner thingee on the pads).

Put everything back .. brought the top down and went riding just now ... no squeak .. no rattle .. no nothing !!!
