Coil packs continue to fail on me. Anyone? Advice needed badly!
Ok a 2 months ago my car was jerking a lot stuttering and had really rough idles. I checked and checked and finally found that it was the coil packs, they were stock so I replaced them with MSD coil packs wires and replaced the spark plugs NGK TR. The car was running great until recently it started to jerk again and the power would come back then cut off again then when I was idled it would be really rough and would raise from 1 grand almost down to zero. I got curious so looked up previous owner he told me that one of the reasons he sold the car was that he had to replace the coil packs around every 2 MONTHS!!! Thats crazy!!
Now i noticed that the wires are extremely hot and the coil packs are also after running it just after 10 min. Is this normal? And what else could it be?

The MSD's are low resistance coils, which means they are fully saturated at a faster rate of time. These are good for high RPM power cars, because obviously, you need spark at a much faster rate, and need the coils to meet 90% of their efficiency very fast, but the downside is they see more current draw than a normal coil and eventually the iron windings inside of them will burn up.
I had a similar problem in my 96 when I bought it, stick to ford plugs and wires, get accel or original coil packs, MSD is crap.

Why woul the coils be going out so much? Electrical problem?
no, prob just poor quality....put the stock oem Ford/Motorcraft ones back on, as there is no need for an aftermarket ignition on your car (or anyone else) unless your making over 500 HP.....
Yes sir I'm probably going with the stock now cuz of the price. Only reason I went after-market was because the stock ones were going out too soon as well previous owner told me as soon after as 2 months replacement.

well good COP's should last alot longer than 2 months or-so, also if you do buy genuine Ford COP's from a dealer, you get a 12m 12k warranty....if you cant find any for a decient price, lmk as I can-do all 8 for $399.00 + s&h
The warranty is still good from the guy working on it for me... I'm just at a lost to what the problem could be I had the genuine Ford COP's when i bought the car they went out... I called the owner to ask him how old they were.. he said he replaced them 2 months prior now i'm just taking his word for it but he said he has always had problems with the coils.
I have a 91 and everything seems to be operable except the ignition spark.....Absolutely NO spark.....I have tested with a voltmeter and continuity meter.....All seems working correctly including voltage to the coil packs.....Ideas plse.....Thx, Jobie
