Default to flush or not to flush

so today is my posting day lol so im driving a 02 gt with the 3650 tranny and im wondering if a flush would be worth it or just to change the fluid but drop the pan and clean out whatever gunk it has built up seeing as i have passed the 100k mark i was thinking about a flush but i dunno if i wanna have all that fluid going backwards through the system kinna scares me. anyway if anyone has good or negative to say plz chime in and richard the local drivline guru i would greatly appreciate your opinion... Aamco Trans. here in town said it owuld be $245 for flush and fluids and filter but correct me if im wrong the 5 spd 3650 doesnt have a filter does it???

my point exactly i don't know if i want to have the fluids forced through valves and screens and get clogged to where more expensive work would be the fix.

Do manuals even have a pan? I'm auto myself but always thought that manuals did'nt have filters or a pan. In my Ranger i just have a drain plug.

You're right about the manual trans not having a filter. As far as flushing, I never flush my trans, only the engine's cooling system. IMO all you need to do is drain it and replace with a quality atf, Richard had told me a while back that penzoil and gm both make good ones called synchromesh that is recommended by tremec. I'm sure Richard will find this and give the expert opinion.

Just drain it when its warm and it will get most out. crack open top plug to serve as a vent and drain from the botom.

I wouldn't use any of that crap, just drain and change. If you're doing it yourself its a lot easy to fill it by taking the shifter out and pouring it in through there, after you drain it, seal and tighten the bottom plug and fill it until it starts to com out of the top hole, I believe the fill volume is 3.4 quarts.

ill find the # and post it on here soon but its for 2001 it fixes all the syncros and 1-4 gear and some other things so if you still have warranty and read this check it out

Actually, I have had great experiences with Royal purple, but Richard, the manual trans genius and I had a conversation by pm about it and he pretty much convinced me that its better to go with penzoil or synchromesh. Basically he told me about a number of tranny's that he's taken apart and he said the ones that were using the synthetic turned the synchros to crap, and tremec does a lot of testing on their stuff and they also recommend the penzoil or gm synchromesh. I still have the royal purple synchromax in mine and its working great, I had a rebuild about 18 moths ago and had carbon fiber synchros installed, but the royal purple has been in there for about 8 months and no problems whatsoever. IMHO Richard really knows tranny's and I'm inclined to go with his advice, I plan to when I change the fluid again, and royal purple is about $12 a quart, definitely not cheap. I do use only royal purple for all other lubes in my car, did a lot of testing when I worked as an engine builder and nothing works as well. If you decide to use royal purple you can find it at pep boys.
