Question 87' or 88' Aerostar 3.73 in GT?

My friend pulled an axle out of an Aerostar for a 5 lug conversion and saw the 3.73's in new looking condition. I'm wondering if these gears will hold up in a new GT if they can be used. Are they softer because they don't need to be made with very high tolerances? I can get them for about $10 to $20. No broken teeth, no wear, no cracks. It has an 8.8 rear end in it. It being in an Aerostar I wouldn't think that they could be abused. I wouldn't even think about it other than them being so cheap and looking so good. What do you think?
