Default rear end slop after 4.10 change

I have noticed sort of a clunk in the rear end only when going from reverse to first or vice versa. other wise it is quiet. It feels like play in the drive line is this normal? 2000GT 5SPD WENT FROM 3.27 TO 4.10

Fordgazm....are you asking what a u-joint looks like? They are little crosses with bearing caps and are located at the knuckles of the driveshaft...lol...sorry I just couldn't resist.

I will check. Will Need to get under car. I just wasnt sure if more driveline play would occur with 4.1 gears I really notice it going into reverse. Thanx

I had the same problem, a minor clunking when putting my car into first or second (usually on a downshift at real slow speeds). I was told the little clunk was my tranny synching up. I dont know if its true, but my car runs fine, still does the clunk thing, tranny guy says its fine, rear end guy says its fine. They both heard it and said no problem. Didnt have the reverse clunk though, just a little trouble getting into gear between first and reverse for some reason (I have a B&M Ripper). Good luck.

I always had to go into 3rd or 5th before I could put the old stang in reverse.

Also, to see if it is the U joints. You could also drive down the road at about 70 or so and see if you notice a vibration when you accelerate and then let off.

Plus ever time I took out my driveshaft I would have to put locktight on the driveshaft bolts connected to the rearend. If not, after about 2 weeks I got the vibration again.
