Alright, I just bought a 2003 GT. I dont know much about building a car but Im damn sure gonna learn! Where should I start? Performance or body? What kind of parts will give me the best results? I should also add that Im on a budget. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
It depends on what you want to do. Are you out for looks? Or are you out for power? Please do a search of our forums using the search feature in the upper right hand corner of the page. There have been many modifications discussed that involve 99-03 GT's. Most modifications are basically the same.
it's true. If you want immediate results from a purchase, go with gears (4.10 or 3.73). If you wanna sound like a muscle car, get atleast a cat-back system (pretty much anything but flowmaster). there are an almost infinite number of upgrades you can do in terms of performance, but appearance is another thing.
While some (including myself) would argue that appearance isn't AS important, there is still plenty of stuff to do. granted, a mustang GT can beat most other stock cars on the road, so you MAY wanna focus on appearance. just keep in mind, it's really embarassing to spend hundreds of dollars looking like the fastest thing on the road, just to get blown away by some rice rocket with a fart-can.

Amen johnny. I think I'd bury my head in the sand if I had a car that looked like a million bucks and go beat by a Yugo.

I think I will go with performance first. Ill start with the exhaust and intake. Im glad johnny warned me about the flowmaster cause thats what I was just looking at If anyone else has anny good suggestions on these areas let me know. Also should I go with cold air induction for my intake or just a high flow performance intake? Also does anyone know any good sites for mustang parts or any exhaust comparrison sites. Its hard to find stuff for the late model mustangs. I find a lot for 2002 mustang and Im pretty sure they have compatible exhausts.
IMHO 4:10's are the best gear to take advantage of the power band. I have not run mine at the track yet, my thinking is that at the end of the 1/4 mile I should be at 5600 to 5800 rpm, and that is where I want to be.
I will be running it next week end so I will get back here and let you know, how it really is!
I think the 4:10's are great, really woke the car up!
I think everyone thinks of 4.10's because they are more common than 4.30's. I have 4.10's and they are great. I work behind the wheel a little more, but its worth it. I am glad I didnt go with 4.30's because I am already shifting out of first almost right away as it is. 4.10's are fine gears, but some on here will scream bloody murder that you should go with 4.30's. Who cares, there isnt that great a difference. Go with what ever you want, you wont see a big difference between 4.10's and 4.30's and the cost is the same. Good luck.
