hey guys I went to my dealership to see why the antifreeze was leaking i was convinced it was the intake manifold. But according to them its the gasket. Which I dont have waranteed lol figures. So they said itll be about $500 plus tax which is rediculous. So I was curious how much of a pain in the ass is it to replace yourself, how long does it take? and could I just throw some stop leak in there until April? Thanks guys,
Get yourself a Haynes or Chilton's Mustang repair manual and check out the section on removal & installation on the intake manifold its not that hard Iam sure if you follow the steps you should be able to do it. You will save big bucks!!
I've done it on the 4.6 2V's and 3V's several times, it's real easy to do. +1 on getting a Chilton or Haynes manual, show's you step by step and all the bolt tq info.
I like to do all my work(except rear gears) and I know what's been done to it or if it was "no question" done right. You have a feeling of pride knowing that you did it yourself.

I just paid $596 to have the entire intake manifold replaced on my car...PARTS AND LABOR! 1 new intake and all parts, gaskets and labor. Sounds exceptionally high to me to charge $500 for just the gaskets. I watched them do the work, and I have to say it is pretty straight forward. I am sure you can accomplish this in a half day (full day with a 6 pack, 2 days with friends and a case).
Dp it yourself, its not very hard, just make sure to clean the mating surfaces very well and make sure there is no warping, and follow the torque sequence, its a pretty straightforwadr job. How long it takes depends on how good you are with mechaninc work, just be patient and careful.

I accually put a can of stop leak in there today and it completley stopped. lol saved me $490. But in late March im buying an aftermarket intake manifold anyways. Thanks guys
