Rear end clunking noise I drive a 98 4.6. A couple of months ago me and some buddies were on the freeway and i downshifted into 2nd. We weren't going too fast and were only around 4 or 5 grand after the shift. But right when I let the clutch out we heard a very loud clunk that came from the rear end. I have not modified my rear end or transmission in any way. At low rpm and low speeds I will hear a clunking noise that sounds like its coming from my rear end. It has become more common with time after that time on the freeway. The noise is most common when letting out the clutch in first. It ocurrs from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd as well. It has happened before when accelerating in reverse while the clutch was compeltely out. I'm wondering if its might be just the gears or the rear end itself or maybe somewhere else in the transmission. The sound is definitely coming from the rear of the car right about where the rear end is. What could this be? |
