Unhappy 1996 Mustang GT~2 Interesting Problems!

Hey guys! My first thread here, so go easy on me. haha. Ok. I have 2 troublesome problems on my GT that need to be fixed.

1) I have an antifreeze leak that seems to be coming from between the engine and tranny. I got underneth and saw it was coming straight down the middle of the engine/tranny mating surfaces. no alien blood on the sides of the engine/tranny mating surfaces, and none on top. I've crawled all on top of the engine with it running and off to look at the very back to see if it was coming from a heater hose, or the one that goes under the intake manifold. when I bought it from my friend, he had installed a deeper Ford Racing Intake Manifold, so i wasn't sure if that was it. I don't see any antifreeze in the valley under the intake manifold, either front or back. Logic says that it's a bad freeze plug on the rear of the motor. BUT, problem is, it only really starts to leak when it gets hot enough to open the thermostat (at least I think so, and from what I observed.) am I right, or anything I missed? alo, how can this happen if all the other steel plugs on the side of the block are fine?

2) haha, ok if you're still reading, thank you! Next problem is my speedo. sometimes it works fine, sometimes as soon as i start to go the speedo will very very quickly climb to 50 and stick there no matter if i'm doing 15 mph, or 70mph. it'll drop to zero only when I stop, and it takes like 10 seconds for it to get there. I've had some success (or lucky timing, dunno) by hitting the dash or steering wheel a bit and it'll occasionally start working again. is this the speedo gear in the tranny, or am i wrong again? haha. if so, where can i get it. I will probably need to find the formula somewhere here to judge how many teeth I need because I have aftermarket 18" wheels on it.

Guys, thanks in advace for ALLLLL your help!

Does the car still have the OE notorious intake manifold? These are known to leak and crack. The upgraded fix manifolds have an aluminum section mounted to the front of the intake.

Also check where the heater hose attaches, this nipple is also a source of leaks.

Also check to make sure your heater core is not leaking, we seem to be getting a LOT of these this year. This will result in an overflow on the passenger side, as well as steam and leaks in the interior.

Oh, and jogging a sticking speedo into working by hitting the steering wheel would not help a worn speedo gear in the tranny. More likely the problem involves the gauge or the cable.

Hey yeah, an update on the cooling issue. haha. i failed to notice the steam and bit of water coming out of the tail pipes. rev it to 2k with the motor warm and rad cap off and it boils all out. not to mention the water in the overflow smells like exhaust gasses. I would say my head gasket(s) is/are blown. besides, the intake manifold is Ford Racing aftermarket.

Hey I got a bright idea.... I know someone with an 02 4.6 out of a gt for sale. I'll could just swap that in to replace the ailing 1st Gen 4.6. Will that manifold i just mentioned fit the 02 block? and what else would i need to make it work??? Thanks for the answers guys!
