man! i got beat by an impala ss. should this have happened? or was it driver error? also, ive noticed that if i go wot for any extended period of time i get this burning smell in the car. its an automatic car, so its not a clutch problem. any ideas?
Any car can be made fast, and I've seen a few impala's (not many) that really fly, just part of racing. The burning smell may be buildup in the exhaust or something touching an exhaust part, maybe even a problem with the air filter, make sure its secure and intact.

i just looked it up. the 08 and 09 impala ss's have a 5.3 with 303 HP. no wonder i got smoked. as far as the smell, i know i need to change my air filter, but ive kindof been holding it off until i can get a cai.
on the subject of air induction. where do you think these mods would put me? pi cams, bullitt intake, cai, catted x and catback, udp's, and probably a sct tuner.

Bullit intake and CAI: aren't these the same thing? And you already list UDPs in your sig...
But as for the other stuff:
Cams = couple ?? hp and more aggressive exhaust note
Exaust = 15-20 hp and louder exhaust
Tuner = helps shifts, 10 hp with advance timing (+higher octane fuel), corrects speedo, etc.

I have a friend with an 06 SS. They are quick and respond to vette upgrades. Losing is good, it inspires you to improve your car. Put on mods and go hunting again.
The gains from cams can be huge, it depends on what the specs are, and what other mods you have to support them. I would do exhaust and intake work first, get it breathing better. The pi cams are supposedly worth around 15hp over what you have.

Sorry about your loss, It is a bigger V8 with more power and I see your looking in the right direction for upgrades. However, this one baffles me. Why are many going to the bullit intake? It's pretty expensive and over a stock New Edge GT only nets 5 flywheel hp(not sure on torque). Please don't tell me it's because the dual throttle body. IMO I think with a PI intake, aftermarket upper plenum and larger TB would do you more justice than the $1000+ it costs to do the Bullit intake upgrade. Or is there a memo I missed somewhere indicating as to how the Bullit intake system is better?

+1 i agree...
i can't see where the bullitt intake would be better than an aftermarket....especially when you compare the prices...

My good friend has a Trailblazer SS. Many people don't even know what they are. Stock is the Corvette engine, rated at 400hp.
He slapped the small Magnuson SC on it and made about 450 to the wheels...until the engine came apart.
So he just got it back from being rebuilt yesterday...A Lingenfelter forged/slightly stroked beast, 2 stage bigger supercharger. It just spun 580hp to the wheels. That is well over 700 at the crank.
It's great to see him at the track. An SUV, with his child's car seat in the back, blowing away Corvettes, our Mustangs, just about anything.
He just beat a guy in a Z06 over Christmas on his way home...with the Christmas tree tied to the roof. Wish I could have seen that. Must have really made the Vette owner wonder what had just happened!
CURRENTLY: 2000 GT 5 Speed, Flowmaster Cat-Back, CAI, New Michelin Pilots, STEEDA Short Throw, Cross Drilled/Slotted Rotors/Performance Pads, New IAC, King Cobra Clutch Kit, Royal Purple in Everything...Would nearly kill for rims and full suspension kit (soon to come).
im getting the intake from my friend who just blew apart his bullitt motor. he did that with a KB, but since hes going to build a 4v, he wont be needing his intake, heads, or cams.
You never know what is under the hood.

haha, yeah those things are pretty fast stock, and not too bad looking for an SUV. Wouldn't mind having one as a DD
