Looking for Clutch/Flywheel combo for TR3650 on a fairly stock 4.6
Greetings my fellow Mustang brothers(and sisters),
I am looking to get a new clutch and flywheel this year, my car is pretty stock still(Hypertech, CAI, 180thermo, Steeda adj. Cable/Firewall and Quadrant). I plan to keep my car pretty stock with exception to maintenance mods as I call them( IE anytime a maintenance item has an aftermarket performance part I go with the aftermarket part). A possibility of 3.73 gears and maybe a catback.
I would like to get some pointers on a clutch and flywheel that I want to put in by the end of this year and I know it's early but we are already more than 1/2 through Feb in 09 and I can't believe my March rent check is about to be due! Time is flying by much faster than I thought it would this year.
So far I have personally narrowed it down to the Spec Stage 1 clutch and Spec Billet Steel Flywheel.
I have given some consideration to the Fidanza Forged Billet Steel Flywheel as well. I am not crazy about Spec as they have been know to have issues on MKIII Supra's which happens to be my other car. Although I haven't seen much drama about them for the Mustangs, just knowing they have issues with Supra's makes me a little hesitant.
My car is a daily driver. I average approx 15-16miles per day to and from work and this distance includes occassional grocery stops(grocery store is right down the street from my house). While gas prices are low we usually drive my car on weekends but tend to car pool a lot with friends as we usually go out with a group of my G/F's friends.
I'd like to hear from exprienced people(no offense to anyone) who have daily drivers with upgraded clutches in their GT and minor bolt ons.
One last note, I do drive my car pretty easy, usually shift between 2-3K(mostly 2.5-3K) and occassionaly driver her harder 4.5-5K shifts. Rarely do I shift at the 5800-6000 mark anymore(too much F***ing traffic).
Thanks for the input everyone, can't wait to hear from you all.
i would not suggest spec stage 1 i have gone through 2 already and the last one i got from them had a bad disc or something and maybe lasted me 1500 miles a guy at a really good local shop told me that the king cobra is a good bet and the pedal resistance is not bad at all the spec is pretty tough to push in but you get used to it but like i said i have had nothing but problems with their clutches

thanks for confirming my speculation about Spec. I've heard good things about them for other vehicles, I wasn't certain about Mustangs until I got to hear from you.
I guess no one here uses an aftermarket clutch on the TR3650 on a daily driver?
yeah im getting ready to buy a fr king cobra clutch this week to replace the spec that lasted me about 1500 miles so i will let you know how that goes it is about as close to stock as you can get but the pedal is easier to push in and it has about 40% more grip and they are running around 300 now which is quite a price jump in the last year considering they used to be around 185 about a year ago

I have a spec stage 1 clutch and a stock flywheel and love it. i just got the the 500 miles break in procedure (im at 533 now) and it grabs like a champ. I havent had any problems.

I also have the spec stage 1 and the spec alluminum flywheel and haven't had any issues after installing. i have about 8000 or so on mine. very easy to shift....have to press my clutch pedle in about and inch or so to shift. very satisfied.....People do say the king cobra is a very good clutch also though

if you luck out and get a good one from them it might not be so bad but they arent very dependable at making sure every clutch is good and the last thing you wanna do is take it out again cause you got a bad disc or something

How is the alloy flywheel working out for you? I initially considered an alloy flywheel but read too many people have issues with them being too problematic on a daily driver.
