I didn't get a tune when I did my swap. I'm sure every car could benefit from a good tune, but nothing in this swap is so radical that it necessitates one.
... and I'm still running 87, btw.

hey how long does this take and is it really really complicated for an average person to do? im above average when it comes to workin on cars but by no means an expert. and i have romeo heads can i just use all my stock hardware to bolt the heads on? everyone said this is an easy thing but it seems like theres a lot of work thanks
I have no idea what a regular P&P job runs... mine was done by a coworker that used to do it professionally. He WAY uncharged ($100 for 16 hours of work). I've heard of others paying close to a grand.
I think $350 for cam-less heads sounds reasonable. Not a smoking deal, of course, but if you're ready to move forward with the project and just need the parts, I'd just go for it. Personally, I'd go for the new heads over the shaving of the NPI, but that's probably just a matter of preference. Cost is likely to be the determining factor (isn't it always? )
i was just going through this and found an old reply to one of my replys. the quote i got for a top of the line p and p was 2200 but this guy is amazing. has a set of cobra heads he did... 120 hours of work in them. Heads by Drew in aurora colorado if anyone is in this area. guy does amazing work and especially is way into the fords. pi heads are his favorite to do
I was able to it in about two days if nothing else broke. I used a package from a Parkway Performance which came with everything.
I have a question for the rest of you. What tap is used for the water temp sensors? The PI intake I got only had one threaded hole the the temp sensor and I put the PCMs sensor in it. I would like to hook up my dashboard temp sensor by drilling and tapping a second hole. Also, has anyone replaced the oil pressure switch with a real transducer? Is it accurate enough?

On the aluminum cross-over intakes, there is a circular flat spot next to the thermostat housing. This needs to be drilled and tapped for your second water temp sensor. Tap it 3/8-18 NPSF or NPT. If you are unable to do this yourself, have a local shop do it for you. If you have the plastic cross-over, I’ve read that the bung between the radiator hose and thermostat housing can be tapped, but I cannot verify personally.
That should do it for ya.

i did the pi swap on my 98 GT and I did dyno test before and after! before I had a slugish 222rwhp now I'm putting down a pretty solid 304RWHP with 307 LB/FT of torque! gears were a must, sct tuner was very helpful too. most of all my good friends at JBA Performance in San Diego, Ca. were the ones who made this all possible! thanks to them my future is looking like a t-56 6-speed tranny followed closely by a 2.8L kennebell charger! good luck with your projects!
